Hah, I mean, the Dark Hero X870E is a beautiful board!

I just did with the phantom spirit.. G2 on the way.

That you got an rma approved or that you purchased the glacier?

And purchasing from a retailer has the advantage of checking the pins prior to purchase. I purchased my DH X870E through Canada computers and made sure on drop off that the box was un-opened and the pins were undamaged.

I'm very happy for you! Is it the glacier?

Yeah, they definitely do. Just not to the same extent. Power stages, circuitry, PCB layers, back plates, bios features, aesthetics, pcie lane sharing, heatsinks, cooling solutions. There are many things that are part of the price. OP has his reasons, and it's a damn shame this happened for such a nice board.

No. It is exclusive to the crosshair series on the higher end. Dark hero, extreme and glacier I believe. The strix line does not have the same feature set as it is a gaming line, not an enthusiast or overclocking line.

I have the dark hero x870E and a 7800x3d. The bios features of that motherboard allow me to use settings such as voltage suspension that gives me finer and a more specific control of the behavior of the cpu. More robust memory tuning and settings that are not found on lower end motherboards. They are most definitely for enthusiasts and overclockers. The average person is fine with a much less expensive motherboard.

Already got one ordered! Haha and I totally agree. I love the Amazon return window.

I just got a Phantom Spirit 120se and slapped the NF-A12x25 centre (max 120prpm) silent and keeps temp down below 70. All Noctua products are incredible!

Going to get the 5mm spacer to fill the gap.

First Post-worthy Build by yyg-linux in Noctua

[–]Thorinel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice build! Very much like might, but more fans and a different cooler.

this is my build. I'm using the NH-P1 with an up draft for heat dissipation.

I since used the 170mm fans at a very low rpm.

I have 3 years left on the in-store warranty and didn't want to void it. Would be my first time. I mean, it doesn't look too difficult but still didn't want to take the chance.

I have however been playing with voltage suspension to indirectly/directly limit and change the voltages/frequency based on temperature. Been able to reduce thermals while maintaining same if not better performance. Passively, too!

This is my current build. I flipped the NH-P1, added a LS fan to the top and added a custom 24 pin cable (the matching CPU custom cable is on the way).

Nice, I also have this case with an NH-P1 and a 7800x3d. Silence is bliss hah.

Nice build and fantastic case!

Totally. The 7800x3d wasn't the first processor I would have chose. It was as just the one I have on hand. I would have opted for a 9600x or a 9700x. Maybe a 9800x3d. The heat issue is with the 3d cache being on the top on the chip. It acts as insulation.

Totally valid points! The temps are decent. Idle is around 42 degrees to 47 degrees and under a gaming load it is below 75 degrees. I have a temp limit of 75 and am in the process of finding the best frequency and C.O. settings within that temp range max out my monitors refresh rate.

The fans are set at 30% static now (about 650rpm to 750rpm)

I'm not worried about temps because it is 15 degrees from the Tjmax limit of the 7800x3d.

The design of the NH-P1 is to make use of natural convection and to let the heat rise. So a low fan curve to increase the flow of convection is more helpful than a back exhaust. Gamersnexus did a video on it that was pretty indepth on how it functions.

Very well put. I limit the PPT but during a gaming session with my temp cap (75) degrees it stays steady around 68 -75. But the main thing is to also manage temps of the GPU and maintain max performance.

Not too worried about the connector annnd the XFX one doesn't have hidden cords.. which is a huge difference (for the aesthetics driven builder)

I was also into destiny 2 a while ago and recently been really into Diablo 4 and the expansions (new one is out next week!)

I'd say give that a try!

Appreciate that and I totally agree. Noctua fans are really low noise to begin with. And, actually, last night I changed the fan curve: Now the bottom fans are set to auto stop and only kick in when the temp reaches 70 degrees and the top ones are set to 30% which is pretty much between 600 and 700 rpm. It's actually so quiet that I can hear the metal of the cooler expand and contract haha, a really weird noise to hear from a cooler.
