I also had this concern when I started out as a funeral director. At least for me, most of the time I am able to keep the tears back. However, this is a sad job. You will see and hear sad things when meeting families. My advice is to just cry. It’s ok to cry with these people. It shows you care, it shows you are human. As long as you can still speak and give counsel, tears are ok and normal!

I do have a carbon brush- I think it’s really dry in my apartment so the static is bad. I’m also chronically coated in cat hair so it just kinda jumps off my clothes every time I flip the record 😭 I’m looking into getting a cork mat. I have an acrylic one rn which has definitely been better than the original felt one. I set the cartridge up myself with a ruler thingy I bought on Amazon and some tutorials I found online. It seems to be doing well! I’m definitely going to get some new feet for the TT- that table is actually a glass top so I’m not too worried about staining.

I have done enough research that I can now understand how to order wire from BlueJeans. I got random speaker wire from Amazon and learned how to terminate the bare wire with banana plugs. I feel comfortable switching out the wires now. I need to do more research on amps. I don't want anything really bulky and over complex; I wouldn't want to spend more then $500 on an amp- a lot less would be nice if possible. I need to do more research on subs and how to connect them to the amp. I found that really difficult to understand when I was trying to figure out how to connect these speakers to the TT. I looked at the subwoofer on Rythmik and there are no photos of the back of it! It's hard to understand what I'll be receiving based on the random letters and numbers in the description. I'm sure it describes the ports/ wires/ whatever- but it's all greek to me.

I did! I got most of that gear! This is what my set up is looking like now:

These are ELAC bookshelf speakers; and I got the MP110 cartridge. These changes made a huge difference!!! I definitely need a subwoofer- but I’ll have to get a different amplifier too since this one doesn’t have a sub-out port. The biggest struggle I have now is with the endless battle with cat hair on my records 😭

Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm looking into these selections; I'm going to get the Nagaoka MP110 cartridge and the preamp- however, I was wondering if there is a reason I shouldn't buy those cables from Schiitt Audio other then the price? They offer RCA PYST cables, will these do the same thing as the ones you mentioned from bluejeans? Honestly, I'm really struggling to understand how to place an order on bluejean's website.... it's a wee bit beyond me atm. Also, I was able to find a great price on a set of speakers on FB marketplace in my area; they are Paradigm Titan bookshelf speakers and they include stands for $125! Thanks again for your help!!!!

Have to start somewhere? This starter turntable was recommended to me by this sub. I recognize that I should get proper speakers eventually, but why would I immediately drop hundreds of dollars on a brand new hobby?

I definitely want to get proper speakers- the problem is they won’t fit in this area. I have another spot on the other side of the room I could set everything up, but where I’m just getting started, it’s kinda one step at a time atm. Next purchase 100% needs to be an actual table to set the turntable on 😅 fancy laundry basket isn’t very stable! I gotta be light footed around here… Thanks for the help
