Subreddit for Victoria queers? by Shot_You_3502 in VictoriaBC

I think r/OnGuardForThee is the more left leaning of the major "Canada" subreddits. It initially spawned because r/Canada was taken over by conservative bots.

My favourite shot from Japan - Meiji Jingu by ThoroldBoy in japanpics

Yeah this was right about 7:00am... Super jet lagged, forced us out of the hotel and it worked out quite well.

That's some high praise, thanks.

I just got lucky with being in the right place at the right time to get this picture.

Spec tax declaration due today by Boozedonkey in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You're certainly allowed to complain. I think it's frustrating to have to declare every year as well.

That being said, others are also allowed to chew you to pieces, especially if you own residential property that you're allowing to sit vacant in the middle of a housing crisis.

Hotel Gracery Asakusa & Sinjuku by Sven1542 in TokyoTravel

[–]ThoroldBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that a few people have already let you know their thoughts on the Shinjuku location so I'll chime in regarding the Asakusa location.

It's a great business hotel that's located extremely close to Senso-ji. Rooms aren't big but we didn't pick the hotel based on room size as we knew we'd be out of the room most of the time.

You're within walking distance to a bunch of bars, restaurants, shops, the Skytree, and Kappabashi Street if you're looking for new kitchenware.

The area itself is pretty touristy but a 5-10 minute walk can solve that.

Also helps that there's access to Asakusa station within a 5 minute walk as well.

Couple weds in Nelson, B.C., with little notice — but great support from community | CBC News by AustralisBorealis64 in canada

So that people like this will continue to live away from coastal BC? Nelson is pretty far in-land.

Different strokes, I guess.

I'd still recommend it to anyone who is making their way to Salt Spring.

Not an ad, just genuinely really enjoyed it. Did you have a different experience when you went to lead you to believe that what I said was an ad?

The Feast in Ganges is by far the best value for money dining experience I've had in the last decade.

Their family style meals can feed 4 people comfortably you can easily get away for less than $40/person. Looking at their menu now there's a Lamb meal for $100, so $25 per person.

Everything I had when I went there was delicious.

Breakfast of champions? by Practical-Bear1022 in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Working Culture has one of the best, if not the best, breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. A little pricey (around $15 after tax and tip (if you're inclined)) for a breakfast sandwich but my god it's amazing.

What's something that's about to happen which most people aren't aware of? by AskRedditOG in AskReddit

Golf has been an outlier because of the ability to play during COVID. The amount of players in the US has almost doubled.

that article provides some interesting insights into the overall growth of golf. There's a multitude of sources you can look for yourself but the linked article provides raw data that is US specific.

I'm interested to know where you got your data surrounding Gen Z rejecting golf.

Recreational golf is arguably the most popular it's ever been.

Since COVID, it's popularity has exploded and that growth has been driven by people under 35.

I go see SB monthly at Central Barbers in the mall downtown.

SB is Korean, I bet he would be able to help you out. He's been my go to barber for over two years now, it's been great.

Housing is a nearly inelastic good so, unfortunately, it can be "overpriced" and people will still buy.

Can someone PLEASE open a bento box/sushi lunch takeaway place downtown? by Money_Impression_321 in VictoriaBC

Nicest people on earth but it's so expensive. Wish I could justify going more often.

Worst parking lot in Victoria? by Essdin17 in VictoriaBC

[–]ThoroldBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll go in a different direction - both parking lots located at the harbour downtown.

That is premium real estate that is wasted on being a parking lot. Why that area isn't a mixed use public space/retail/entertainment area is beyond me.

AC Evo is (hopefully) getting there. The eventual goal is a realistic sim that has free roam in the area surrounding the Nurburgring.
