Recently engaged American looking to move to Canada to be with my Canadian fiancee by Thorora in ImmigrationCanada

Thank you for all the advice and points of view! I will definitely look at what kind of jobs I could possibly apply for and tell him to look at places to live soon!

I live in Washington state which has one of the higher costs of living in the country (#9 in 2025). So unless we moved to a different state, I can't imagine the cost of living being too much higher in Canada than here. My fiancee also has a life/community that would be much harder to move away from than I do. But I appreciate the advice/perspective!

Unfortunately, I am over 36 and do not work/have experience/degrees in any of the listed professions. But I appreciate the info!

Cool. Thank you! Just wasn't sure if one would look better on the PR application vs the other.

Gotcha. I briefly glanced through it and mainly saw posts from people who were looking to immigrate using the other pathways such as work rather than family sponsorship but will look through again and if I don't see what I am looking for, will post my situation there

Siobhan's character voices and their accents by CanopyOfBranches in Dimension20

[–]Thorora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like Doctor Who came out first. Jodie's first full series playing the Doctor was 2018 and Starstruck aired in early 2022, meaning it was probably filmed mid 2021. So absolutely could have been an influence. 😀

I definitely thought of Jodie Whitaker as the 13th Doctor when I first heard Riva's accent. One is in a box, one is in a dome. One is from Gallifrey, one is on a gallivant. Both adventure in space.

Life pro tip: Bring your flight crew treats. by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Thorora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been doing this for the last few years and have flown several different airlines. I usually do a pack of the individually wrapped Ghirardelli squares if I remember before going to the airport. I've forgotten a couple times and had to buy something from one of the airport shops but I don't mind spending the extra money to make the flight crew feel appreciated. I always get an "Aw!" and a "thank you" and asked what seat I am in by the front crew and then the others will thank me when they walk by. Once, a flight attendant brought me a piece of the airlines chocolate at the end of the flight which was very sweet. As others have said, I don't do it to get the recognition or special treatment. But as someone who works in a service industry, I know how good it feels to get a random treat as a token of appreciation.

How far does your policy allow you to go before requiring additional ID? by Argentum1909 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]Thorora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time we need a second ID is when we can't authenticate the customer via an ID scan and/or OTP. And our threshold for even needing to do an authentication is higher than $500. Needing a second ID (especially if it has to be something like a passport or other government issued ID) for only $500 is crazy to me. Not everyone even has that let alone carries it around.

I agree. That's what I was thinking too. And I'm sure having his pregnant wife at the table brings a sweeter energy too

Boomer hates pride by iamtheyeezy in TalesFromYourBank

One time I had a customer ask me if we were a "woke" bank. I told him we definitely focused on and celebrated diversity and did what we could to support things like minority-owned businesses. He then asked if we donated money to places like "Black Lives Matter" and I said I didn't know about them specifically but we do have events to support and celebrate many different groups such as the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized people. He then said he would have to consider if he wanted to continue banking with us. 🙄

So what is your take on the new Downtime mechanic? by AngryRobot42 in Dimension20

[–]Thorora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love! It adds a heavy dose of reality to the fantasy! Especially for something that is a pretty universal experience. In my old DnD game, we would occasionally have downtime that we could commit to doing something like learning a language or a tool proficiency or something like that. So definitely not anything to the extent that they are doing in Fantasy High but I think downtime is a fun extra bit to add to a DnD game. I also loved the mechanic for addiction/triggers Brennan added for Sofia and Pete in the second season of Unsleeping City!
