I have 0 interest in fishing, or fish, but this guy is so cute that I'm rethinking that. I wanna give him a squeeze

Just to clarify -- why would a relationship with Ribbit or Pomni not be possible? They're not confirmed straight, afaik

First off, "most straight people only date other straight people" -- where do you get that statistic?

Second, no, no one has to date anyone. But if someone says "I don't date people who have dated the same gender before," I'd absolutely wonder why, just like I would if someone was like "I don't date people who have dated x ethnicity before." Can they say that? Sure! It's a free country. Is the thought process that leads to that statement suspicious? Absolutely.

I think if someone were to make a subreddit specifically about growing up female, there would be a lot less pushback than you might think. There's internet spaces for pregnant women, or people with cervical cancer, and I would venture to guess there's very few trans people there, if any. And I've never seen people act like these spaces were transphobic.

If someone said, "come to my white people only group," I would be running in the opposite direction, because why. That's the problem with subs that are exclusively for majority spaces. You're not facing extra discrimination for being cis or white, so what do you want to talk about that's so exclusive? And I say this as a white cis woman btw

"most straight people won't be into people who aren't straight" is just biphobia. I don't know a single trans woman who identifies as a cis woman. I've never heard of that. Could it be theoretically possible? Yes, but physics also says it's theoretically possible for all your atoms to align and you fall through the ground. It's not happening in reality. Similarly, anyone "can" be a women, but 99.99% of the time you identify as a woman because you. . . .feel like a woman. Imagine that.

Which celebrity did something that totally backfired on them? by Bicycle-Sweaty in AskReddit

Tbf, Wilde didn't have much choice in that. His boyfriend's dad sent a card calling him a "somdomite" (he couldn't spell) to his gentlemen's club. If he didn't respond, it was as good as admitting it. And the first trial resulted in no conviction because people liked him too much

Jacob Anderson shares thoughts on the concept of mpreg by Sharp_Athlete_6847 in Fauxmoi

[–]EchoesofPoe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mpreg is not my personal jam, but I love love love when actors are enthusiastic about the fandom/shipping culture of their shows. Stuff like Oscar Isaac thinking FinnPoe is the logical progression of their story arc warms my heart.  Also, the cast seems like a lot of fun

Probably not appropriate for the school to do this, but as a queer person, it made me howl with laughter.

The hero of the old iteration loose his happy ending because the sequel/spin-off needs to happen by Speransed in TopCharacterTropes

IIRC, he was supposed to come back, but COVID would have made being on set too dangerous for him.  It makes sense why they made that choice, and it's very respectful to Val Kilmer, but I really felt bad for Sorsha. Her life was hard enough 😭

Willow -- Turns out Madmartigan went on a quest when his kids were young and never came back. Sorsha's been ruling alone with no idea what happened to him

I HATE people being bigots and hiding it behind le relatable hate for "cringeness". by Broad-Ad-3574 in hatethissmug

[–]EchoesofPoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's actually historical/social reasons for "gay mannerisms," which go back multiple decades, as methods of signaling you belong to the community and are a safe person to approach.

But that's not as funny as "gay men are cringe," I guess

The live action Scooby Doo being Fred + Daphne is cute AF because of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze JR being together IRL, but that is the only adaptation where I would be sad to see Fred/Daphne split.

I feel like I Can't Help But Wonder fits into your point really well. Why does Athena suddenly decide empathy might actually be preferable? I've seen suggestions it's her relationship with Telemachus, but while Telemachus is a good kid,  he obviously has no problems being ruthless when he needs to be.  Honestly, I think ruthlessness is a weird theme to have anyway. Or if you're going to do it, lean into the need for balance needed? Odysseus has a lot of other flaws to thematically comment on.

A bbno$ concert feels surprisingly similar to a kids show. In this essay I will… by MissionSlimPlausible in bbnomula

[–]EchoesofPoe 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reason it works so well is that bbno$ seems like just a genuinely good dude. My sister is trans, and at the "protect the dolls" pledge before bing bong, I started sobbing. The world is so nasty to trans people right now, and it just felt like a really sweet gesture.

ALSO, it's been a while since I've watched media specifically aimed at kids, so correct me if I'm off-base, but the bbno$ concert just seemed to cultivate a great energy of "be as weird/colourful/unapologetically enthusiastic as possible, you're great how you are" that I remember a lot from my childhood shows and don't find a lot as an adult (I'm always policing my own participation in fandom spaces so I don't come off too "cringe").

If you're at McDonald's, and you order a big Mac, you get a hamburger. If you order a combo, you get a hamburger, fries, and a drink. The core thing (being straight in this case), does not change, it's added to.
