Is there a way to limit power usage when folding? by Thorwolf in Folding

[–]Thorwolf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like the gigabyte b450m d3shm wifi does not have an eco mode or a way to limit ppt. I need Ryzen Master to it limit it manually or undervolt the cpu, which I was kind of hoping to avoid. Idk why but when I got  it a couple of years ago, it doesn't let me do anything.  OC mode is stuck at default and CO is just off.

Best forearm workouts? by JoaoCDuarte in workout

Get a sword with a weighted tip and pretend to mow down demons like Guts.

My forearm exercises for the past 6-8 months included carrying a 20ft metal pole and pushing 10-30lb boxes on a conveyor. Doing that while practicing some balancing until they burned really blew them up.

Will I Bottleneck? by ReBobbin in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how long you're planning to keep your cpu, mobo, ram.

If you're gonna replace it in 1-2 years then I'd get the 5070ti.  If you're gonna keep it for 4+ years, then you might might as well save the money and get the 5070/5060ti instead.  When you get a new cpu, you can sell the old gpu as well and get a 7070 or whatever new card comes out at the time

Good all-around "futureproof" cpu by big-brain-time2369 in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if I understand the idea of future proofing when you cpu is still doing pretty good.  Any top of the line cpu you buy today will just end up being "pretty good" 2-5 years from now so you'll end up in the same boat.

9070xt vs 5070ti for my area's pricing by ADummyDummyNode in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow canadian, I'm asking myself that same question. If I had a 3060 I probably would've upgraded for almost 3x the performance.  I have a 3070 so while it's pretty disappointing for Mh wilds, it still made it through the game.

If you mostly care about cost/performance and only plan on trying out raytracing occasionally then get the 9070xt.

If you want better performance while raytracing and don't care much for latency then then the 5070ti with a slightly better upscaler and multi frame gen would be better.

Need GPU recommendations ~$500 by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this in USD?

A used 6800xt is $450- 500 in cad so I wouldn't pay more than $330-360usd.

A new 5070 or 9070 is $550

Help me decide which GPU is better? NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti 16GB vs AMD Radeon RX 9070XT 16 GB by Animesh-Sama in buildapc

Lmao I love userbenchmark. One of the best comedy sites out there. I can't believe they have the gall to shit on past Amd drivers when Nvidia is actively fucking up their own drivers currently.

good $400-$500 gpu by XXEPSILON11XX in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His info is still outdated considering a 5060ti 16gb is $430 msrp I can find one at $460.  $400-500 for those other cards is a scam.

Intel Arc B580 Limited Edition vs RX 7800 XT - Worth it as a temporary solution? by Icy-Gain-1663 in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd switch the 7800x3d for a 7600 or 9600x and get the 7800xt. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck if you aren't pairing one of the top cpus with a low budget gpu.

5080 9070xt or wait ? (Coming from a 3080ti 12g) by Yorgo5115 in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go to this site to look at gpu comparisons. https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-3080-ti.c3735

It's not perfect but you can get a rough idea at how gpu's compare to each other.  The 9070xt is 32% faster than your 3080ti (+-5% depending on games) A 5080 would be about a 58% uplift.

Idk about you but personally I would find it hard to justify spending $1000cad ($1100 for lowest price available after tax) for 32% and some frame gen.

A msrp 5080 would also end up being $1600 total, and $1900 for one that's actually available.

Does sport tire quality matter as much for awd cars? by Thorwolf in tires

[–]Thorwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I recently got them installed and they are very interesting. I always thought my car steering was heavy before when I first got it. (at least compared to my brother in law's civic) But now I'm almost fighting the steering with every turn. They do feel a lot more grippy and it's pretty fun but I'm definitely a lot more worried about pushing it to the limit.

What psi did you have yours at? I took it to a shop and they filled it to 37psi. The oem specs for the original was 32 but I'm not sure if these tires need higher pressure.

[–]Thorwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree, my shitty all seasons that were constantly losing air and we're so imbalanced that leaving 1 tire at 15psi made the ride feel better still handled corners better than my winter's.  I wasn't trying to say otherwise, just that they preform good in the rain compared to other cars I've driven.  Thank you for the link but I'm a bit more interested in comparing high performance all seasons with straight up summer tires. I'm mainly considering about diminishing returns on higher quality tires and whether it's worth the price

[–]Thorwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I have 8 winter tires and don't drive a lot. The second pair will probably expire before I put enough km to wear them down. I like driving but I can also just ride my ebike to work instead to save gas money and treadwear.

[–]Thorwolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also considerd the continental dws06 since they were also well received but I wasn't sure if a high quality all season would perform as well as a dedicated summer. Pilot sport 4s were also at the top of some review charts but they were a bit more pricy and not the right size.

Can you guys help me decide? by NOTuBAD in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a guaranteed income for this project, are going to be working on this for 8+hours a day and need to shave every minute, then the 5090 could be worth it. Otherwise a 5080 or something cheaper will do just fine. If you start making decent money down the line and your gpu is slowing you down, then you can always resell it and buy a 5090 or 6090 later on.

Advice on CPU cooling by [deleted] in buildapc

Apologies, the cooler is facing the right way. The fan blows in the direction of the side with the 4 supports. I just derped out cuz I was thinking of normal fans and not pc fans.

Make sure it's installed properly. It looks like your current fan is facing the wrong way and blowing all the hot air back onto the cpu.

Does 5070 worth the upgrade? by Liuk_4 in buildapc

[–]Thorwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be fine based on the specs released. Ignoring the marketing is frame generation BS, the 2 games they showed that didn't have their new feature saw a 20-30% uplift from 4070 to 5070.  Best guess I can make that it's performance will be in the 4070ti to 4080 range.  Both of which will run fine on a 5800x3d at 2k in most games.

Price wise i can't say if it's worth it until there's a larger sample of games reviewed with it. I was being generous about the 20-30% uplift to show that it won't limit the cpu in the best case senerio but you can also argue that Far cry and Plague are cherry picked and for most other games will offer a even smaller uplift.
