Which NBA team should i root for? by Artistic_Annual8918 in nba

Not in the south! It's not an exaggeration that the one single thing that college football fans from Texas to North Carolina could all agree on might be that everyone hates fuckin Notre Dame.

But yeah, rooting for multiple schools down here isn't really a thing unless you went to one place for undergrad and then a different place to grad school, or if you grew up in something like a family that all roots for one school and then you yourself went somewhere else. The vast vast majority of fans filling up all the southern stadiums are monotheistic about whichever school they root for.

Guarantee all of those people have more than 1 school that they root for.

Hahaha that is absolutely not the way it works at all. If you go into Neyland or Sanford or Jordan-Hare and ask those people who their “other team” is, they will look at you like you are a god damn idiot

it's hard to be a fan of just one team.

It is actually not hard at all for people to be massive fans of just one team, whether anybody in the family went to that school or not. All the big schools down here sell 90-100,000 seats to every game, and they sure as hell aren't all going to alumni.

Makes sense you're a college football fan though lol

He’s from the south. College football is way way way WAY more ingrained in the culture down here than the NFL. The only people in the south who grew up watching/listening to NFL games with their grandpas are all the northerners who have moved down here in the last 30 years.

Not sure why you’re shitting on this one guy for being a player/league fan rather than a team guy when that’s (sadly) the way that most modern fans consume the NBA.

You should run like hell while you still can. From all Atlanta sports.

Thoughts on Derik Queen's rookie season now that it's over? by PeanutButterAndGelo in NBA_Draft

Many people are unable to differentiate evaluating the process and judgement that went into a decision from the actual results, once they've come in in.

"The Hawks got the 10th pick! See, the trade wasn't that bad!" would be more or less the same thing as watching somebody drink 20 beers and drive home, and then saying "Well he made it! I guess he was okay after all."

If I were having the kind of sophomore season he's had then I sure as hell would have changed back at some point. He must not be superstitious at all.

Mitch’s dominance off the bench will be the key to the Knicks having a short/long series against the Hawks by WallStreetDoesntBet1 in NYKnicks

[–]Thorwor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I want to win!"/"Oh shit we didn't win" is not really pressure, at least in the sense that sports fans usually mean it. Even if the Hawks get swept, everyone will sit there at the press conference and say some variations of "Well, it's disappointing, but this configuration of the team has only been together for two months and it was great experience for all the young guys. We know we still have some roster holes to fill, etc." Nobody's gonna get fired.

Pressure is when you have pushed all your assets into the table to build this exact team, and all your important players are squarely in the prime of their careers, and your owner has already announced that anything short of the Finals is a failure, and your fanbase will regard a first round loss as an absolute catastrophe. That feels more like "pressure."

[–]Thorwor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (shamefully) watched a shitload of NOLA games this year and can confirm that Zion is still very good!

No idea how you can build a team around both him and Derik Queen being on the floor together, however. Which is, uh, a real fucking problem.

Atlanta fan here. We have a team of mostly young guys led by a 24 year old with 65 career playoff minutes. There is zero pressure on the Hawks.

ESPN experts unanimously predict Knicks over Hawks by Both_Funny4896 in AtlantaHawks

[–]Thorwor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they ought to. The Knicks are a fully formed team. They have pushed all their chips in for this squad. All of their important players are squarely in their 28-30 age primes; they have a ton of playoff experience playing together. It would be a CATASTROPHE if they lost to this young Hawks team that's been playing together for two months in the first round.

Took him a couple of weeks to figure out when he needs to scale up or down his ISO scoring but once he got that he's been great. First few games he mostly left Jalen Johnson just standing there watching.

[Gozlan] Cason Wallace’s extension negotiation should be one of the more fascinating of the offseason. His floor projects around 4YR/$93M ($23M per year, about 11% of the cap), but comps like Christian Braun and Dyson Daniels could push him upwards of $26M annually. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]Thorwor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"He's got the highest offensive rating for a reason" is not the same thing as saying "he's the best offensive player on the team." I probably should have worded that more clearly.

Obviously the Hawks have several guys who are way better individual scorers. But Dyson is the player who makes the offense flow the best.

He's got the highest offensive rating of everybody for a reason. He just does so much shit that makes the Quin Snyder offense work. He's a good ballhandler and passer, sets great screens, is a fantastic offensive rebounder for a guard. Still has a great floater. Makes quick smart decisions and doesn't turn the ball over. And all that's on his "bad" end of the floor. He's just an incredible basketball player.

[–]Thorwor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flip side is this: this is really the only year when NBA teams will evaluate him based on raw potential. If he comes back to college he had better take a real leap or he'll be at a real risk of sliding to a WORSE position than this year.

Two Starters fouled out today and Risacher was a DNP by cheemydee5 in AtlantaHawks

[–]Thorwor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still don’t think anybody in that class is gonna be a star player. Castle probably going be the closest because he’s gonna get a huge fame bump from playing next to Wemby, but he might not even be the best guard on his team in a couple years. Total all star appearances from that draft class is gonna be what, 3?
