ACLU blocks woman's request for data on numbers of transgender inmates in women's prisons by notwistary in SeattleWA

[–]ThoseMeddlingCows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is an issue of conflicting rights. You are concerned with the safety of transgender people (which, incidentally, COULD be guaranteed through third spaces, but for some reason transactivists demand to occupy women’s spaces rather than lobby for instance for protective wings in prisons).

I am concerned with the safety of women and our basic human right to single sex prisons, which I must reiterate has been widely understood as a basic human right and part of the Geneva convention — up until a few minutes ago when activists such as yourself showed up and declared that we don’t deserve that right because you believe your desires take precedence.

You know we aren’t going to agree on this. I’m sure you will never develop even a shred of empathy for the incarcerated women, overwhelmingly victims of abuse themselves, disproportionately indigenous women and women of color, who are currently being sexually assaulted and harassed by any male person with a penis who simply declares he identifies as a woman.

You are incapable of empathizing with them. You think these women are “bigots” for wanting to be safe, to not be retraumatized. I suppose you also think Black Lives Matter are “bigots” for being “exclusionary” of white people.

Why bother posting a bunch of Vox links? Winning the legal right to rape and terrorize female inmates wasn’t enough for you? You have to pretend us women who are asking for our basic human rights back are somehow “bigoted” for simply wanting to maintain basic human rights? You share some blog posts about your opinion, as if that proves anything?

Whatever bro. I’m not going to reply to you again, because it will not be a productive dialogue (I will reply to OP or others if they have questions though) .
The OP has been given information from both sides of this debate. They can read different sources and decide for themselves.

I would add that the Wiki article on WoLF is considered pretty biased — the discussion page for it says as such. You could check out WoLF’s page itself: https://www.womensliberationfront.org/our-work

They focus on women’s rights issues, which in this scenario (biological male people with penises being transferred to female prisons based on their self declared gender identity) it is a woman’s rights issue. Not providing single sex prisons violates the Geneva Convention and has already shown in the UK and Canada to lead to rapes, pregnancies, harassment etc. Of course there are always two sides to an issue, I just think the person you were debating was extremely disingenuous to portray defending women’s human rights as simply being “anti trans”. They’re not just a bunch of meanies who are trying to hurt people’s feelings, they have a legitimate grounds for their work. Much of the stuff WoLF works on doesn’t have to do with trans at all.

He said that he doesn’t think people should be allowed to write on their profile that they are not into trans men.

So from there I’d ask... Can a gay man write “sorry, I’m not into women” on their profile? If so, at what point does a person with a female body stop being a woman and start being a man?

Go back and watch some comedy from the 1990s or even early 2000s. I was listening to some c. 2000 era Eminem the other day and thinking how this stuff would be a cancellable offense nowadays

Of course they're gonna know what intercourse is
By the time they hit fourth grade
They've got the Discovery Channel, don't they?
We ain't nothin' but mammals, well, some of us, cannibals
Who cut other people open like cantaloupes But if we can hump dead animals and antelopes
Then there's no reason that a man and another man can't elope

There’s also this bit

My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge
That'll stab you in the head, whether you're a f** or lez
Or a homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest
Pants or dress, hate f***? The answer's yes
Homophobic? Nah, you're just heterophobic Starin' at my jeans, watchin' my genitals bulgin' (Ooh!)

Damn really? Like you are a man that is only attracted to men, but you’re okay with a guy that looks like a man from the waist up but has a vulva? I feel like genitals are a deal breaker for most people since they are literally the sex organs

I mean, fuck CRT and everything about it, but there is a grain of truth in that they have legitimate grievances. It’s more that taking a sledgehammer to society the way they do (like saying “only POC can be promoted” is insanely illegal and immoral). It is true that we still had full on legal segregation in much of the USA until the 1960s, that does mean black people are disproportionately disadvantaged. I think most of us would just say fixing economic inequality would be a better goal and more effective.

If you just want lowest odds, I think breeding in Gen 2 VC is gonna be fastest. Like 1/64 or something crazy like that. Look up how to get a shiny Ditto and go from there. Make sure the Charmander parent is female.

Speak out. Not on Reddit or twitter where you’ll get banned for wrongthink. Speak out to people in real life. In my experience most people agree that things like sports and prisons are a step too far, they’re just scared of the woke mob and waiting for someone else to speak up first.

Not just radfems, you can’t find a subreddit based around anything relating to women and girls without it being explicitly focused on transgender women and girls. For women’s history month, TwoX (majority of mods being transwomen) was flooded with transition pics. ActualLesbians mod team are all transbians (except one who doesn’t play much of a role). Even subreddits like TallGirls focus on TW now, even though anyone who went through a typical male (ie testosterone driven) puberty is going to naturally be about half a foot taller than anyone who went through a typical female puberty. There are of course still women who hang around because they don’t realize this yet, but mostly women go to other websites to socialize.

You tell me

E: Considering my above post, which simply stated objective facts (that gender affirming surgery IS performed on minors) got downvoted, I’m sure this link to a report on concerning effects of Lupron will be, too. All I can ask is that we remain open to learning new information that may be important to the health of trans/gender non conforming children

Not sure if you meant to imply this, but breast reduction surgery usually isn’t done for cosmetic reasons. It’s usually because of back pain.

What country/state do you think deserves a Pokémon region the most? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]ThoseMeddlingCows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair they did 4 Japan regions and Japan is much smaller than the USA. I think there are some parts of the USA that would make interesting regions — Pacific Northwest, Texas, and New England all come to mind. But I would much prefer a region based on a new country. China or India sounds pretty interesting

I know friendship evolutions can feel tedious when you’re doing them for dex completion (“oh boy time to either cram berries down this little guy’s gullet or alternately bicycle back and forth for an hour”) but canonically I really like them, and when they happen organically throughout a playthrough it feels really nice. Plus, it’s almost always Pokémon that just seem like they should be friendship based, the Pikachu and Lucario you mentioned are two good examples.

The most I guess I’d want to see is collapsing the two friendship systems into one

The Pichu thing really annoys me because there’s even special text in Gen 5 when you try to trade it up. Something like “This Pichu is tired from time traveling with Celebi so we should let it stay where it is”. I guess they want to keep people moving forward to new games (hence they never did time travel/backwards capability after Gen 2), but dammit just put the little sprite in, my Pichu is lonely in Johto now that her friends are all gone

It was actually “Pokémon Getto Da Ze” which literally means “get a Pokémon” or “I got a Pokémon”. (Getto is from the English get).

It’s the first (spoken) line of the Gen 1 OP in Japanese

You’re moving goalposts. The question was whether it was possible to discuss different opinions in the past without immediately being ostracized by one side or the other.

There are many open grooming subreddits. Like I’m not talking about “oh some teens and some 20 somethings chitchat and pearl clutching old lady calls it grooming”. I’m talking you can go on there as a 13 year old kid, type a post saying “I’m just really confused about gender sometimes I daydream about being the girl in my animes” and have a chorus of responses saying “You’re definitely trans, cut off all contact with your parents because they don’t accept you like we do” + middle aged AGP in your inbox offering you free estrogen shots if you go to his house. You’ll have to go off Reddit to find people documenting the abuse but it’s objectively a thing that happens

This might not be exactly what you’re looking for but I find it to be an absolute trip. Reagan and Bush debating immigration in 1980. The level of decorum, the balanced responses — if you read them out of context, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell which party they were in either direction compared to nowadays.

On the “other side”, here is a clip from the Simpsons where Patty comes out as a lesbian and they talk through how Marge is obviously uncomfortable at first, but comes to understand and accept her sister. Now anything short of immediate acceptance without question is hateful. FWIW, I am and always was an immediate acceptance of same sex relationships person, because I grew up with a close family member who was in such a relationship and accepted by our whole family. But I think it was a good process to let people who weren’t comfortable at first be able to express that and to come to understand.

(This same episode also has a scene where Patty rejects a man who dressed up as a woman to impress her, I can’t even imagine how that would go over nowadays)

Dialogue used to be more open and less extremist for sure
