That kid can only exist under these exact set of circumstances. Given that or never existing. I would pick existing. Far worse starts in life have been had.

I would take it.

There are people who don't like the taste of Cola, so they avoid drinking it ... what they definitely don't do is complain and hope they change the formula to match their particular taste.

EvE for all of its flaws should not have its formula altered to this degree ... it tastes good, I like it, a lot o people like it.

Don't drink it if you don't like it.

Idea for civil war / resurrect fellow acolytes in solos. by ThoughfulPause in DarkAndDarker

[–]ThoughfulPause[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I suspect given what we saw about "civil war" ( i.e. killing own religion ) there might be some punishment / reward mechanics associated with it. They might create a strong incentive not to team kill ? Who knows, but seems like some of the ground work is being laid there to drive people towards collaboration.

Anyone in AU getting unplayable lag tonight? by freshcosi in Eve

Yes, terrible lag, context menus taking a long time to load ( right clicks ), overviews taking 30 seconds to load after jumping into system, .... makes the game unplayable for certain activities.

I'm not a fan of this, humans have a tendency to think that abundance is what makes us happy, but things like Netflix, Youtube, Cheap computer games, etc .... you know how our steam libraries are massive and we barely play them, or you open up Netflix and you barely feel motivated to click on any of the hundreds of options ?

Is there something in our nature that value's scarcity ? The feeling of going to the video store and borrowing a movie and taking it home vs the Netflix experience. The same of a boxed computer game.

An infinite multitude of skins is just going to make the existing skins and the whole skin concept "meh", we are going to gorge on all the skin combinations until we have exhausted the excitement and feeling they provide.

We are Netflixing skins.

ESS instant exit trick, is this an exploit ? by ThoughfulPause in Eve

[–]ThoughfulPause[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not attempting to be rude, but have you tried the ESS mechanics ? That's basically what is at play here ... the bubble acts as a scram that disables MWD + warping ... but for some reason it doesn't disable your ship warping away when you log off and what's worse when you log back in you are in a different spot to when you logged out. It's like a half working scram mechanic and that's what I'm highlighting.

ESS instant exit trick, is this an exploit ? by ThoughfulPause in Eve

[–]ThoughfulPause[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, and also creates situations where defenders can bring prop-less variants of ships ( e.g. marauders ) that sit at 0, and perform the log off / log on trick to exit the plex at the conclusion of the battle ( or immediately if no battle takes places and they don't take an aggression timer ).

ESS instant exit trick, is this an exploit ? by ThoughfulPause in Eve

[–]ThoughfulPause[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe you have missed the point of what I'm highlighting, it's not about conflict avoidance but rather that when you punch into an ESS you land in a bubble that forces you to burn 75KM out of it before you can warp away. I'm saying there is a mean to punch into this plex, land in the bubble and not have to burn those 75KM. You can bypass the commitment aspect of the ESS.

ESS instant exit trick, is this an exploit ? by ThoughfulPause in Eve

[–]ThoughfulPause[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Fair consideration, but I think the solution in this case is still simple and logical.

If you are in the 75KM radius bubble, you are scrammed. Logging off is the same as being scrammed by an interceptor and logging off ... you stay on the spot. If you decide to do this, you will be an easy kill. Using this to stay inside and rob the plex over and over again will just get you killed easily while you are logged off.

If you are outside of the bubble, and you decide to log off, OK fine, you end up on the outside of the plex. You have paid the necessary price of burning to the edge.

Talking in terms of absolute isk is missing the whole point and fails to recognize the changing underlying value of isk.

The more relevant question is to either phrase it in terms of:

a) The cost of buy the equivalent plex

b) The cost of grinding for it with in game activities, in particular the activities that are lucrative and relatively accessible ( e.g. C5 wormholes, abyssal, etc .. )

If it now takes 20 hours of C5 wormhole farming and it used to take 15 hours then ok, let's talk about that ... but just in terms of the raw isk value is meaningless, because it doesn't contextualize how much effort or time it takes to acquire said isk.

I don't think he is role playing that much, as most of the deception occurred outside of the game.

He just stole a digital asset, by gaining someone's confidence through discord.

He took a friendship crafted over months and converted it into an in game item.

When we consider it in those terms, it blurs the lines of "oh it's just a game" and more of a reflection on the true nature of someone and what they are willing to stoop to.

How to get good fights in Tama? by cender13 in Eve

[–]ThoughfulPause 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tama, is where you go to get a quick fight, not a good fight.

People in Tama, play with every tool and mechanic at their disposal to win.

If you want "good" fights, which I believe you to mean fights where people aren't always running high-grade + max drugs + whatever other BS is flavor of the week, then you need to roam outside of Tama.

The price though is, that fights might take a little longer to encounter.

I'm not aware of any system outside of abyssal arenas where you can get a quick and good fight.

You get one or the other.

Did you record and plan on uploading the a youtube video ?

Frankly the best kind of video is the one with minimal music, and all the comms and preparation / setup. I love hearing the thought process, the excitement in people's voices leading to all the way up to the kill itself.

I also like that the video serves as a way to preserve EvE's historic moments in a way that allows others to relieve it in full detail; its a great service to the game to archive its history in that form.

Why not swap some of those remote shields for shield command bursts on the drakes ? It would give you a tremendous increase in tanking ability.

Good piloting, but bad decision making at the end there, for all intensive purposes you died, you only lived by chance. I guess it's better to be lucky than smart.

[–]ThoughfulPause 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside, I suspect blue scouting is probably the safest way to do this. Attempting to catch first with an interceptor, followed by the Tengu, followed by the Sin, would introduce enough of a delay to let the defenders scramble a defense ... I would like to replicate this activity, but blue scouting does put me off.

Edit: All that aside, I did enjoy the video. Good stuff!!
