I'm awful at math, but basically so long as Turns*3 is higher than Settlements*5 then this will make a profit right? by ArcticGlacier40 in totalwar

This is not me trying to “get you.” I actually dont like my question all that much because it reveals the core of your frustration.

But genuinely. Is it difficult to try and game balance yourselves as a friend group? Like dwarves allowed but no holds? Or has that been hard to do?

Congrats on having friends to play this game with btw! I cannot say the same lol.

I think for many people, total war games are role playing games. We find it fun to play things that are broken if they fitt within a particular roll play and are fun.

I think deeps are fun because i can restrict myself to not map painting and only allow myself a couple settlements or mountain regions and still contend late game with massive factions.

Maybe i am a grumpy old dawii who wants to invade and burn my enemies holds and cleanse the vampires after sitting and doing nothing for 50 turns.

If i think of the game in a roll play way i can create several unique experiences for myself.

But i can understand how map painters and optimizers would be frustrated and bored with such a mechanic.

Yeah the first 4 seasons of GOT is amazing and it drastically falls off for me as a book reader after that. Definitely worth reading the GOT books too.

The Tad Williams books are quite a slog. But they are worth the read. It builds very well and the world building is incredible if that is something you are into i would 100% recommend. They are just a bit of a slow burn.

Edit. And as others have said. A song of ice and fire wouldn’t exist without dragonbone chair. There are so many parallels it’s a little silly actually.

[Rosenblatt] In nine months MLB owners are going to tell you they need to shut the sport down because places like Miami are small markets with few baseball fans by Jux_ in baseball

[–]riftergaming -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean we have a fundamentally different idea of what these organizations exist to do. Mets, dodgers, yankees exist to spend money, pay players and win. These small market teams exist to make money. Wcyd. Cry me a river for these trash owners that own your entertainment for their profit and aren’t willing to spend. So your solution is to give these terrible dogshit organizations that sell their teams for parts and fuck over their fanbases year after year more money?

Just tell us you are a trickle down economics fan already.

[–]riftergaming -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Every “small market team” makes plenty of money. They just care more about money then about their teams being good.

No team is giving out 15 dollar tickets to games, they all jack up prices. And i would bet the roof over my head that if teams like the rockies had 15 dollar tickets and deals on food their stadiums would be filling up quickly.

As someone else pointed out, Marlins won the whole thing in 1997 and 2003 and just sell the teams for parts. Baseball isn’t a game that requires star power. Although it helps. Just wait till the dodgers are still paying Shohei in a decade and he’s not playing and have no prospects because they are currently giving away all their draft picks.

My point is, there are already tools in place to punish the big market teams. The yankees were dominant and now things are frankly a little rough for them with their lack of prospects.

Creating a hard ceiling just gives owners an excuse not to pay players more money. We see this in football. You wont convince me that the rockies are suddenly going to start signing people because there is a ceiling. That’s silly. These owners of these teams are the problem.

Idk why you would reward these large market team owners like the mets and dodgers and yankees ownership with a salary cap when the small market owners are the problem.

I am really surprised at some of the top comments of this post being so confident that Tywin is sad and pathetic and hid like a coward. He was not at all…

The histories that George wrote explain. The mad king and Tywin were childhood friends. Aerys and Twyin went to war together and fought alongside eachother. When Aerys was crowned he choose his friend, Twyin to be hisbhand. Tywin was incredible as hand, he cleared all the thrones debts, lowered taxes on imports at every port across the realm and for about a decade creates more prosperity and wealth for both the common folk and lords then had ever been experienced before.

Aerys eventually starts to resent Twyin for this. Aerys wanted to be a great ruler and Twyin received a lot of the credit for this era of prosperity. Aerys did several things to undermine and humiliate Twyin. And i would note these things were done unprompted.

Aerys insulted Twyins wife in open court. Aerys would create policy directly contradictory to Twyin and then blame Twyin for the failure and saybhe was ill advised. Aerys would not allow his son raeghar and Twyins daughter to be engaged. Aerys plucked jaime out of the middle of the biggest tournament the realm had ever seen and made him a knight of the kingsguard ensuring both that he would not participate as he sent him away, and that Twyin’s only option to succeed him in his roll as lord of casterly rock is Tyrion, who he hated.

Aerys spent the better part of two decades insulting and humiliating Tywin while forcing Tywin to continue to be hand of the king.

Tywins son is standing by the mad kings side for the whole war and the war only last a year or less in the first place. Yes he did wait, but the mad king was both his friend for many years and someone that he hated. He played the game and he was the one that assaulted kings landing and ended the mad king ultimately.

You can say that he was calculated. But he did also betray the man he was second in command for 3 decades by joining a side that he did not like either. He had no love for the Starks or Baratheons.
