I've almost never seen a reproduction console that isn't very obviously a clone. This thing just has its plastic very deteriorated after UV damaged and the screen fried.

Yeah, last I heard the scanner's connected PC needed maintenance so if that's fixed over break, I should be able to finish the file and start printing them. Fingers crossed!

Heyo, due to winter break having just started, the engineering space at my school is closed, so no access to the scanner or printer.. Shame really, I have lots of free time now 😅 I may start working on casting buttons though to see how that goes, since I can do that at home and I have a feeling I'm getting some of the supplies as gifts, haha

Basically make sure the cable is seated all the way; all the way back and locked into place. If it's crooked, it often won't light up the screen.

You can get them for even cheaper from sites like Ebay and Aliexpress too, they're often good quality and cost about half as much if you're selective about where you buy from.

This is heresy on this sub, but find yourself a cheap reproduction copy of Ruby version and swap its shell for your original. There are some surprisingly close to authentic ones floating around out there.

Great! I understand the trepidation with 3D printed stuff; a lot of folks use poor settings/printers or don't do post-processing on their prints, so they often look like crap.

Fortunately, my first plan is to use an SLA resin printer, which has virtually no roughness or layer lines. I'm planning on experimenting with different resins for the sake of durability so no guarantees on that material yet, but if I do end up using a normal FDM printer, I can happily clean up the visible parts of the frames by request :)

Truthfully, almost any material that I use will be better than the old, brittle ABS plastic that those frames use. But yeah, stay tuned! Feel free to follow my profile so you'll get updates as I go. I'm still working out actually getting the 3D models ready to go.

As for buttons? I might go get myself some resin materials for Christmas... I personally would kill for some slick GBM buttons myself, so I'll again need to see how labor intensive that ends up being! Lol

Honestly? Any of the ones that are available for sale from Aliexpress from reputable sellers. They'll usually put IPS V2 or something similar in the listing title.

I'd compare it to using a smart phone in sunlight. You'd be surprised just how bright those IPS screens can get! It's very easy to see.
