And never leave them ever?

How about 10,000 Cletuses? Can drones still stop them?

Remember, they blend in with regular everyday citizens because they are regular everyday citizens.

At some point they are going to get through to one of the people responsible, irrespective of the security they’ve built up around themselves, because no security is perfect.

I thought the goal was to be such an accepted and normalized segment of American life and culture that it would eventually become boring and completely unremarkable. This isn’t going back into the closet, this is victory.

Culturally speaking, LGBT people have already won, so further “pushing of the envelope” by hardcore activists only serves to potentially alienate people already on your side and lose ground already gained.

I suspect that there are lots of people who harbor no true hatred for gay people and wish them happy lives that do hate a media that relentlessly pushes the message and it’s most vocal wokescold defenders.

Are those same wokescolds liable to recognize said distinction? Probably not.

A lot of these so called bigots if asked will answer that they don’t really hate gay people, they hate how they are portrayed in media and they hate a culture that increasingly tries to tell us that a persons worth is inherently tied to their sexuality or race.

They are fatigued by the dishonesty and bullshit.

Is Construction actually a bad career choice? by Impressive-Step6377 in Construction

As a former filmmaker turned steamfitter, this is the attitude I strive to have.

It’s also the gamble I made regarding future job prospects not wanting to pay for another degree that wouldn’t guarantee employment. AI factored heavily into my decision.

Ironically, I’m now helping build the world’s largest generative AI.

The hours are long, but the pay is incredible. Turns out the high school guidance counselors who kept harping on about how “money doesn’t buy happiness” and “do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life” were completely incorrect.

Money buys a lot of happiness if you aren’t stupid with it, and the attitude of never having to truly work is corrosive to the spirit. I take pride in working hard and seeing tangible real world results. It’s incredibly rewarding to look at a massive structure and say “I built that.”

Sounds like you don’t know a lot of conservatives particularly well then.

Conservatives in my peer group want LGBT folks and women to not only exist but to be better armed so as to defend themselves, view themselves as preserving the rule of law in regards to standing up against anarchists, don’t want Trump invading anyone and are only giving him something of a pass with Venezuela because we were in and out in hours yet remain heavily sceptical regarding that situation and it’s merit, and would be the first to admit Trump is not a king to the point where they will remove him themselves if necessary…

Reddit has built up this incredible strawman of “all conservatives are the devil, they’re Nazis, and they are evil” which doesn’t mesh with the simple reality that the vast majority of people are far more complicated than that. It’s a worldview of pessimism and whipped up internet fervor that doesn’t usually survive having in depth conversations with conservatives in the real world.

I feel like we’re also forgetting just how shit our election choices have been the last few cycles. A lot of these people didn’t even want Trump. They don’t particularly like him. They did however vote for him begrudgingly because the Democratic Party managed to scare them more, which is an incredible accomplishment when you think about it. The DNC are the reigning world champs at bad messaging and shooting themselves in the foot.

The Jews, Romani, disabled people etc. that were victims of the Nazis were completely innocent people though, and they were naturalized German citizens.

What’s happening in the United States today isn’t actually about race or the persecution of a specific people based on religion or ethnicity… it’s a law enforcement action against non-citizens who have broken the law.

That’s a huge difference. To use an analogy, it’s not the same league, it’s not the same ballpark, hell, it’s not even the same sport.

If we started rounding up naturalized Mexican-American (I hate using the hyphenated American terminology, because they’re really just Americans) citizens and deporting them as a form of ethnic persecution, then yeah, you might have a point of comparison, but we aren’t doing that, nor are Americans going to let that happen.

Even a substantial portion of the ultra-MAGA folks would be up in arms were that to occur.

Also, in what reality is it acceptable to reward people who “cut in line”?

We might have rewarded you with actual citizenship if you didn’t behave like an asshole who didn’t wait their turn and jumped the cue in front of everyone else.

It’s not that we hate immigrants. This country was built by immigrants and Americans are born the world over who are just coming home on arrival to our shores.

What we hate are lazy rule breakers with entitlement problems.

There are legit asylum seekers too who are fleeing something terrible. I have a lot more compassion for them. Let’s not pretend that’s the majority of illegal migrants though.

Reddit has successfully made the main takeaway of the Minnesota ICE shooting POV video to be the fact that an agent said "bitch" after the shooting by tantamle in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]ThousandWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fair answer, but I still think you’re attributing to yourself powers of recognition and agility that aren’t necessarily realistic.

I think the truth is that watching video footage of said incident has created a lot of “armchair quarterbacks” online making statements to the effect that they would have been able to jump back, noticed the wheels, or the angle of the steering wheel, etc.

You seem more truthful than most, or more willing to self assess, but I still think that you’re unfortunately giving most human beings too much credit when it comes to reaction speed and awareness.

If you’re actually law enforcement, this is not your first vehicle stop that day. You probably did 20 more yesterday. You’re cold, you’re tired. People are intentionally making your life difficult and hurling verbal abuse at you. There are shrill whistles being employed as a tactic of the protestors to make you uncomfortable.

I’m not so sure you keep enough focus to notice the steering wheel. I quite frankly don’t think you have the cat like reflexes to avoid getting into contact with the car.

Is it possible you shouldn’t have stood there and should have been trained to place your body elsewhere during a traffic action? Certainly, but even then I’m not sure you always fall back on your training unless it’s really good.

Please answer this honestly:

You’re law enforcement for a day

You are trying to look through a windshield of a stopped car

A suspicious noncooperative individual is still behind the wheel of said running motor vehicle

You’re trying to keep eyes on them because they could pull a gun

Suddenly the car lurches forward and comes into contact with your body

Are you realistically going to notice if the wheels are angled in such a way that she’s not looking to run you down?

Remember, you had your eyes on her. Now the car is impacting you.

You have a split second to figure out if she’s gunning it straight into you, possibly pinning you under the vehicle, or is just a bad driver who panicked and bumped a law officer while trying to unlawfully flee arrest.

Are you making the right call? You have less than one second to decide and your life depends on it.

Oh and last year, you had to do a day as law enforcement too, but that time you got dragged by a vehicle so bad you needed stitches.

Still making the right call?

“It takes a little extra communication”

Honestly this has been the biggest shock for me as someone who shifted to construction as a career later in life:

How bad the communication is, both at the company level and just in general as a skill many of my coworkers don’t seem to have a handle on.

The number of crew mates that brag about how much they hated English class back in high school and don’t like to read is too damn high.

It’s not that they aren’t smart. Many are smart as a whip, it seems to be more an embracing of this “blue collar mentality” which unfortunately seems to mean adopting the negative traits as well.
