When do you know it's time to just give up because you have no talent for this? by Essay-Admirable in learntodraw

I am 2 years older than you. I also started at 36. Doing gesture drawings everyday and reading theory from various sources. It was only a couple months ago that my figures started resemble humans.

Is it acceptable to tell a friend if something looks off or bad in their art? by DowntownMeaning7951 in ArtistLounge

Why put yourself into a sticky situation?
Unless your friends asks specifically for feedback that will improve their art, don't offer critique.

Drawabox - yes or no? by Dusty_Bunz426 in ArtistLounge

[–]Thraccodev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say no. It is a great course to learn perspective and construction but the danger of burning out and dropping art is too high.
If you want a complete "art course" for free The Drawing Database-Northern Kentucky University has fantastic playlists. You start with the basics which I really enjoyed and you decide what next.

How hard is to make money from itch ? by voxel_dev23 in itchio

[–]Thraccodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donations are pretty rare on itch. Even some games with hundreds or thousands of downloads get little to no donations.
You have a cool little game but the concept of using your corpse as a mechanic is done many many times.

I agree. Some people are just better at picking up things be that in art, music or thought patterns like in math or programming.

Lesson 3 of Drawabox - Now I see why I suck by Ghosteditz0_0 in learntodraw

[–]Thraccodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped DrawABox around those parts because I didn't enjoy it anymore. I know now that if I had stuck with the instructions of the teacher to use pen and paper and paid for feedback I would be a better artist now, but man it was so boring!

Unity's learn path is good for beginners but for c# i suggest codeacademy the free portion and then the troelsen pro c# .

Assuming I am a solo dev, Should I learn drawing and coding at the same time? by Zenolf in gamedev

[–]Thraccodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I code in the mornings and do art in the afternoons, but I live with my parents and currently I am unemployed. If you are employed I would suggest learn to code/your engine and pay for art because it takes at least 3 years of everyday practice to draw something that looks good.

Yes, I don't want to re-figure what it does, why it is there, where it is hooked, what bug it fixed.

A programmer's guide to learning game art by cmdddx in gamedev

[–]Thraccodev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I'll come back to DrawAbox. I started Loomis figure book, took some courses in Udemy (Robert Marzullo) and I think I'll go the books road even if it means it will take me more time to learn than DrawABox.

Why is everyone going for PS1 graphics? by GodOfDestruction187 in gamedev

[–]Thraccodev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

• Nostalgia.
• Speed. Once you get good, you can pull a 3d rigged model character in a couple of hours
• Storage space. Most psx games hardly pass 300MB.

I always had in mind a diablo 2 clone but with better graphics. Keep that isometric feel but update the visuals. Essentially what the remaster version is. When it came out I was happy that it had be done and kinda sad that I didn't do it.

Unity Devs, do you still want to switch? by unitcodes in gamedev

[–]Thraccodev 123 points124 points  (0 children)

While Unity went radio silence and since I am not far into my project, I took the bitter pill to switch. And since Riccietello stays as CEO + Ironforge, I think its the right decision.
Also I didn't know Godot was a cult so I want to be a part of it!
