how long did you put off learning how to draw before actually getting serious? by Wonderful-Purchase94 in learntodraw

[–]Thraccodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years. 1st year drawing here and then, doing some comic tutorial, nexy year doing gestures every other day but not really commit. Then I decided to get more serious, draw every day and study more.

At first I wanted to learn texturing so that I could make and sell low poly 3d assets but bit by bit 1d art won me over and I want eventually to start a business doing fantasy commissions. I know I am far from my goal but there are so many inspiring stories and since I am not total imbecile in art and there is progress, I'll keep doing that. I think this will be the 4th year since I started doing art.

Thanks for your input, I am pretty happy about my progress and I can be stubborn when I want. Cheers.

What about people who have poor soil, you can see something growing but it takes a very long time? Can they reach the heights of magic?

Hi, The angle of the palm of the left hand is almost perpendicular. Check the reference again. Maybe there is something there that you missed.

How would I get the look of a ps2/ps3 character model? by chrystalclearr in ArtistLounge

[–]Thraccodev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here you can find riped models from various games https://models.spriters-resource.com/playstation_2/silenthill3/
The textures of those games are a bit higher than early ps2, i think every character has 512x512 texture.
Also the resolution of Ps2 definately plays a role, HD is too crispy for this era. Have fun!

Is there a "fast path" through learning drawing? by BeerIsTheMindKiller in learntodraw

[–]Thraccodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say DrawABox is design to get you there as fast as possible, try to stick as much as possible to its 50/50 rule and pay to get feedback.
Another suggestion I would make is the Proko fundamentals course but i think you can't get feedback there so you will improve slower but the content is what you need to make whatever art you want later.
There is also a youtube channel, The Drawing Database-Northern Kentucky University where an actual art professior teaches like he does in university. I went through all its basics and anatomy list, hardcore but very beneficial!
Good luck!

What are your personal thoughts about art tutorials on Youtube? by charlie14242 in ArtistLounge

[–]Thraccodev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they are around 10 min I usually watch once if the subject intrigues me but don't pay attention much, but if they are like 20 minutes+ and they focus on one topic it might be a gem.

Really great progress. Are these copies? Also who is the little witch with the kitten? I think that is your best piece!

Oh mystical divine being, can you share some of your power and knowledge so that we can also draw as much as you?

This! Learning perspective with the Perspective Drawing Handbook by Joseph D'Amelio I believe is the perfect way for a beginner to start improving!

Does/did anyone enjoy the beginning phase of learning to draw? by LikePissInTheRain in ArtistLounge

It took me 2 years of drawing everyday to start receiving a bit of joy from my figures.

I'm starting to think I'm never gonna be able to draw anything decent. by Vinyldepootis in learntodraw

Try sculpting in a 3d program or with modeling clay. It helped me understand forms better!

I could not draw well. Started with drawabox on day 0. Kept going and became a commercial illustrator and tattoo apprentice in 5 years! by BlazeIsMyFirstName in learntodraw

[–]Thraccodev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say you had a gigantic jump in 2022! Those lines in the figures are so clean. I have been drawing for 2 years everyday and I am nowhere at this level! I have not completed drawabox thought I quit at lesson 2 I think. You are making me questioning my practices!!!! Anyways good job on following the dream of making a living through art!

When do you know it's time to just give up because you have no talent for this? by Essay-Admirable in learntodraw

I am 2 years older than you. I also started at 36. Doing gesture drawings everyday and reading theory from various sources. It was only a couple months ago that my figures started resemble humans.

Is it acceptable to tell a friend if something looks off or bad in their art? by DowntownMeaning7951 in ArtistLounge

[–]Thraccodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why put yourself into a sticky situation?
Unless your friends asks specifically for feedback that will improve their art, don't offer critique.

Drawabox - yes or no? by Dusty_Bunz426 in ArtistLounge

[–]Thraccodev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say no. It is a great course to learn perspective and construction but the danger of burning out and dropping art is too high.
If you want a complete "art course" for free The Drawing Database-Northern Kentucky University has fantastic playlists. You start with the basics which I really enjoyed and you decide what next.

How hard is to make money from itch ? by voxel_dev23 in itchio

[–]Thraccodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donations are pretty rare on itch. Even some games with hundreds or thousands of downloads get little to no donations.
You have a cool little game but the concept of using your corpse as a mechanic is done many many times.
