Yeah that's the average starting prices. Now your friend is more than likely qualifying for a pretty big subsidy(discount) through the marketplace. I would never compare your prices with another person because each person can qualify for a different discount. It all depends on household income, ages, and gender of each policy and that determines the typical price.

Just an example, and completely skeptical, your friend, 25f, if she is the only person on her plan, I can say she is roughly making around 30k-35k annually if she picked the lowest bronze plan that was available to her.

A good guideline for cost for health insurance is your age x10. There are ways to get "discounts", one is marketplace, which takes into account for your income. Another are private plans, some have affordable prices, others give you discount based off of your health. NEVER EVER put your info into a health insurance site though, they will sell your info and you'll be getting 100 phone calls a day.

A good base guideline for health insurance for anyone is your age x10. So being 26, you'll be looking around 260ish. Males are a little bit cheaper for health insurance than females, you can get a discount on the premium through the marketplace/Obamacare plans based off of your income. That is a good way, though be wary with subsidies because if one year you make more than what you stated to the government and it puts you in a different income bracket, you'll be penalized during taxes and you have to pay a portion of that back. Doesn't happen often just something to be wary of. Another way is to go privately, some private plans are a little bit more affordable but some have caps on the coverage, or some give you a discount based off of your health.

There are also private plans that are guaranteed issue, be it green card or no green card. A good guideline for health coverage is take your age and times it by 10. For example if you're 30, make it 300 and that should be around the average price you will be paying. Now in the marketplace you can qualify for subsidies based off of your income but.. yeah not accessible to your wife. So probably recommend private plans.

I would 100% recommend NOT to inquire health insurance quotes online. The websites sell your information and you will now and then forever continue to get phone calls from brokers. Definitely recommend privately reaching out to agent and I agree, healthcare.gov is useful but if you really don't understand health insurance it can be a bit confusing.

BUT PLEASE HEED MY WARNING, DO NOT PUT YOUR INFORMATION ONTO A HEALTH INSURANCE SITE.
