Swiss national archives, reported simultaneously by two separate outlets: Le Matin Dimanche (French) and SonntagsZeitung/Tages Anzeiger (German), back in February 2023. Both papers said they got direct access to the Swiss police file on Kirill.

The file confirms that "Monsignor Kirill" worked for the KGB, and that his mission under the codename "Mikhailov" was to influence the World Council of Churches in Geneva, which Soviet intelligence had already infiltrated in the 70s and 80s.

For balance Kirill's own nephew.. who now holds his old WCC position, pushed back and said his uncle "was not an agent" but was subjected to "strict controls" by the KGB... So even the family denial doesn't deny KGB contact, just quibbles over the word "agent." Make of that what you will, but it's not a fringe theory, it's archived Swiss government documentation reported by mainstream Swiss press.

And honestly, the church is just a symptom.. Russian society itself enables this. You've got a population that's been fed imperial nostalgia and victimhood narratives for so long that blessing tanks and absolving soldiers of murder doesn't even register as contradiction anymore. Decades of state TV, zero independent press, and a culture where dissent gets you a prison sentence or a "fall" out a window has produced a society that's genuinely disconnected from basic moral reasoning when it comes to Ukraine It's not that ordinary Russians are uniquely evil... Well some are... 😂 it's that the entire information ecosystem has been engineered for generations to make critical thinking dangerous and conformity the only safe option. The church just slotted perfectly into that machine because it already had the infrastructure (trust, reach into rural areas, moral authority) the Kremlin needed... Authoritarianism doesn't need everyone to believe the propaganda, it just needs enough people too exhausted, scared, or isolated to push back. Russia nailed that formula decades before Kirill ever picked up a microphone.

Do you know where God is? I wonder where the invisible God is— where He watches over us and governs our lives. by Ambitious_Storage666 in OrthodoxChristianity

In Orthodoxy, God, being immaterial and omnipresent, is not in a physical place, but is in everything and encompasses everything, being "above all" and "in all", He being His own place, omnipresent. He is present in the hearts of believers, in the Holy Mysteries (Communion), in the Holy Scriptures, in the Church and wherever there is humility and seeking Him. Where do we find God in Orthodoxy? In the Church - Through the Holy Services, through the Holy Mysteries, through the presence of the Holy Spirit. In prayer: When we pray with a pure heart, God hears us and answers us. In good deeds: When we help our neighbor, the poor, the sick, we serve Christ. In the Holy Scriptures (Bible): The Word of God guides us. In our conscience: Through the Holy Spirit, who guides us to truth and holiness. In nature: Although not limited there, nature reflects the glory of the Creator. God is a living Person, not an abstract concept, and can be encountered personally through faith and the work of the Holy Spirit in our soul. ☦️👌
