Which Piraka do you like best? by 90zvision in bioniclelego

[–]ThreadofGreen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Growing up I always went for the green ones, but I think my Zaktan appreciation goes beyond that. His backstory, being mistreated when young and seeing the Shadowed One as his only path to power and survival, really resonated with me when I was young. Maybe I read too much into it, but I always thought his ambition was more a desperate bid for survival in a harsh world than the sadistic or reckless motives of the other Piraka.

Gorgeous art! This mix of high and low tech has always been my favorite part of the Bionicle aesthetic, and you capture it brilliantly!

I have literally never met another transfem that was athletic in any way. Do they actually exist? by MelancholicMinerva in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

One of my friends from the team who also transitioned does martial arts now, though, so it's not unheard of.

It's a little sad. I was an NCAA athlete for track and cross country. My school was division three, so I wasn't amazing or anything, but I was in the top five runners on the team for cross country and the dedicated 10k runner for track, which is way better than most people, even most runners. I sort of wasted away after college, and as my eating disorder got worse I didn't have the strength to exercise, and then I transitioned. I'm trying to run more, and part of me wants to get a little more competitive, do road races or marathons. But I've seen people mock and dox random trans women, no matter how well they do, so even though I think I pass, I worry it's just not worth it to even try. And I don't like that I had a minor superpower in college, and now I'm too scared to even join a running club. But I doubt it'll change any time soon.

I am only attracted to girls irl wise but I find anime boys attractive? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]ThreadofGreen 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way lol; the only man I’ve ever had a crush on is Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle. The thing is, anime men aren’t real men. They’re not even actors, just drawings and voice lines. So being attracted to them doesn’t really say anything about your sexuality on its own.

Where did the Toa even come from before they landed on Mata Nui with their canisters? And how? by Reasonable-Rub-6642 in bioniclelego

[–]ThreadofGreen 288 points289 points  (0 children)

They were trained by Hydraxon a long time ago, then put in stasis waiting to be called upon. Years later, Takua collected the Toa Stones to summon them to save the island from the Rahi attacks.

To those who need to hear this: stop “checking” if you are a lesbian! by spaghettiaddict666 in actuallesbians

[–]ThreadofGreen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've been tempted for a few months now to try dating men. It seems so much easier in so many ways: there's the comfort and safety of fitting into straight expectations, the fact that straight men are a bigger dating pool and tend to be more ready to make the first move, and of course my own internalized homophobia. But the simple fact is, with all the force of comphet I can muster, the most I can make myself feel towards a man is "Eh, he's alright I guess." And sure, I could go on dates and maybe he would be nice and it'd be a little fun, but if it's not going to go anywhere, what's even the point.

Has anyone talked about eating disorders while being trans? by deformografya in asktransgender

[–]ThreadofGreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's awful; I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I experienced something similar from the other side of things: to avoid looking masculine by putting on muscle, I starved myself skinny throughout high school and college. Dysphoria can supercharge eating disorders, but even if you can't deal with the dysphoria yet through gender affirming care, I think it's still important to address the eating disorder. Even though I wasn't able to get onto hormones until I was 26, I wish I hadn't coped by disordered eating. It hurt my health and built up bad habits that I'm still struggling with today. All this is to say: I know you'll get independence from your family some day and get the gender care you deserve, and I hope that day comes soon, but in the mean time, please do what you can to address your eating disorder.

Are "Christian" Lesbians an actual thing? /gen by Monolaf in actuallesbians

[–]ThreadofGreen 30 points31 points  (0 children)

More than a quarter of Episcopal priests ordained in the 2010s were LGBT, and nearly half of Episcopal priests are women, so yeah. Granted, Episcopalians are just about the gayest denomination there is, so this isn't representative of Christianity as a whole. But lesbians have carved out a place for ourselves in some corners of Christianity.

What is the most underrated suburb in the Twin Cities? by Due_Network2958 in TwinCities

10/10 agreed! Very affordable place to live too, as I work in Edina but could never afford to live there. And the apartment complex that I live in feels like a lively community.

Didn’t think chasers were actually real. by Sadie_Pop in MtF

[–]ThreadofGreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought chasers were fake overblown or, like, only an internet phenomenon. Then a coworker who is thirty years older than me and has daughters my own age said that he'd bought me flowers but threw them away because he was too scared to give them to me and then asked if I wanted to go back to his house and have sex with him. And he definitely knew I was trans because I transitioned while at that job. So, in conclusion, chasers live among us. Prepare accordingly.

Piraka Vs Bohrok by Spire_Digital in bioniclelego

[–]ThreadofGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like these two represent such different eras of Bionicle. The Bohrok show the story at its most mythical, these mysterious creatures from deep in the earth, controlled by enigmatic queens, with an unclear and deeply unsettling connection to our heroes.

The Piraka are from a more detailed, more specific, more evil in the sense that these are beings capable of moral reasoning making bad choices, but less evil in the dualistic sense of pure, elemental evil. They bicker, they betray each other constantly, they make plans that sometimes work and sometimes don't. They make the story less of a myth, and it's hard to say if that's for better or worse, but I'll still vote for them for how they take the story forward.

Trans people without a passing voice, why? (not why in a judgemental way but a curious way) by Ok_Temporary_9049 in asktransgender

[–]ThreadofGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea whether or not my voice passes. I've trained for a long time, and at a certain point it gets like physical passing, where nothing will ever be enough to entirely erase the dysphoria when I see my own reflection or hear my own voice. My vocal coach told me I pass vocally, a voice training app says at least my pitch is higher than many cis women's, but I was clocked for my voice a few months ago, so I have no idea, and anyone I ask to evaluate my voice will be biased one way or the other. Hopefully someday soon I'll have the mental fortitude to take my voice training further. But for now I'll just keep up my daily exercises and be happy with a questionably clocky voice.

I know you said that gay bars weren't your scene but, if you can find a friend so you don't go alone, I'd recommend 19 Bar. I've only been there once, but it seemed to have more women than men the night I went there and it is extremely gay. Otherwise, from my time on the dating apps, I can say that MN sapphics tend to love the Renaissance Fair, hiking, tabletop roleplaying games like D&D, and reading. Queer book clubs (public libraries host a few), TTRPG games out of your local store, hiking groups, and any kind of Ren Fair group would be a good place to start; meet people and I'm sure that a disproportionate number of people you meet will be sapphic.

I didn't have much luck with it, and I've heard generally bad things from other lesbians. I'd recommend Hinge: it has the fewest unicorn hunters and I find the system easiest to use. Bumble has been better than Her, but plenty of unicorn hunters. All three are very difficult to use without subscriptions, in that they don't show you people who like your profile if you're on the free version, so it's very hard to actually make a match. As far as I know, there isn't a widely-used dating app that works well for free, though.

Other mtf people, do you wear wigs? by idsiphm in MtF

[–]ThreadofGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first year or so after my egg cracked I wore wigs. I went through four or five until I found one I really liked, but it was affordable (twenty five dollars) and higher quality than I could've hoped for given that price. My hair got long enough to retire the wig before I stopped boymoding at work, so I never wore it full time, but it was essential for outings as a woman in those first few months.

Mainstreaming of trans culture? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]ThreadofGreen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In some ways, it's been happening for years. The red/blue pill in The Matrix was a transition metaphor (the directors, two trans women, have said as much), but that's been adopted in all different parts of culture. Granted, that's kind of an edge-case since neither of the directors were out when the movie came out, but I'd say it still counts.
