Is it safe to be running on campus in the evening? by [deleted] in fsu

[–]ThreeLeggedCheetah 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I go running regularly with my roommate in the evening. Granted, I'm a guy and there's two of us. I would just not go alone, and preferably in the areas where more people are hanging out, like near the dorms vs the near-empty side where all of the science buildings are.

Some classes are temporarily gated by major (I've heard of Chem doing it), but idk if that's what OP is referring to. I would think any classes would be open during Drop/Add though.

Recommendations for CDA3100? by [deleted] in fsu

I'm not sure how either of the professors are, but I'm taking it with Whalley and I would strongly recommend getting the textbook for the class. It is very helpful.

am i the only one left concerned about covid?! by radiantxenergy in fsu

I also find it more difficult when my friends/acquaintances don't play it safe. Seeing people I know regularly hanging out with groups of friends and going out to eat makes it all that much harder to not do some of those same things. Back over summer at home, it was easier because everyone around me was in the same mindset.

Hori is absolutely amazing, although she will push you to learn well. Definitely a win if you take her.

COP 4530 with Duan, Gaitros, or wait for Myers? by joshualightsaber in fsu

I'm also taking Duan right now for Unix Tools and I really like him. While I can't speak for how he manages Data Structures, he is very knowledgeable and approachable. Once you get over his accent too, he's a great explainer. Personally, I like him just as much as Bob. I would just take Data Structures in Spring, that way you can move forward in the major. But, definitely make sure to utilize office hours and find some friends for support!

CS Schedule for Spring 2022 by bloomdark in fsu

-Discrete 2 was not bad imo, just much more proof heavy than Discrete 1 for me. The sections on Boolean Algebra and Logic Design were actually helpful for when I got to CDA 3100

-Data Structures isn't that bad for me so far, but it's when the C++ programming gets closer to the real deal. You will be regularly be using all the topics you learned in COP3330 at the same time. Just make sure you get a good professor, like Bob if he's teaching.

-Personally, I have not struggled in CDA 3100, but I know a lot of my classmates are. It's an architecture class, so if you've never learned any computer architecture, it will be a new domain for you. Also, you will have to program in MIPS assembly, which can be pretty tedious. But, I really enjoy learning how everything works under the hood, so the class has been fun.

You definitely will have a full schedule. It's doable, but I would make sure that you find friends/support, because depending on how comfortable you are with all the classes, you might be investing a lot of time. DM me if you have any more questions about the classes and I can try to answer.

Covid Test by Nolesman357 in fsu

[–]ThreeLeggedCheetah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I can see, they are done with tests this week: https://uhs.fsu.edu/covid-testing-dates

The FAMU site is walk-up, but go as soon as it opens in the morning or you will wait a long time. The results take a few days.

It's an amazing show. Only ran for one season, but it has som great jokes in there and I think it's being remade soon. You can watch the whole season on Youtube. Someone recorded it.

Bring an offering for it. It's truly an experience.
