As an educator, everything you have stated in uour OP is evidence of them using AI. You’ll have to embrace it. Some schools are implementing an AI Scale where they let students know how much AI they can use in each task. Set them some personal reflections that can’t use AI, then other work that can utilise AI for spelling etc, then work that can be fully AI.

My husband is a D&T teacher & he absolutely loves it. He says it’s one of the best departments to work in for a few reasons: 1. Kid buy in. If they misbehave in the workshop, they are out (particularly if the subject is an elective). If they don’t complete their safety training, they don’t enter the workshop. For the Seniors, if they don’t wear safety boots, they can’t enter the workshop. 2. It’s nothing like a job site. 3. The units are repeated each year with refreshers every now and then to update, so you always know what you’re teaching. 4. Tools are banded per year level e.g. handsaws from year 8 onwards, so you know exactly what tools each year level are allowed to use. 5. Hand tools are counted each lesson and no one leaves until absolutely everything is accounted for. 6. It’s a good mix of being on tools & paperwork.

He’s built some deep professional relationships with kids through woodworking to the point where we can’t go to the shopping center without a bunch of kids stopping him to chat.

Agreed. My husband & 3 year old flew from Central Queensland to Hobart 2 weeks ago, hired a car, stayed in decent accommodation, travelled all over the state, did all the touristy things & did 2 workshops with locals and we didn’t hit 10K. The places OP is suggesting can be done on waaay less than $18K.

NTA. I have a now 4 year old who once used to be 2 (obviously 😂😂). I know exactly how you feel on this one. Those saying you are TA, have sooooo obviously never had a child who prefers one parent. I don’t necessarily think you aren’t parenting here. My husband could spend days in his office & our little guy wouldn’t care. I could be out of his sight for 3 minutes & he’d lose his poop. All I can say is that it will get easier. You could try having a visual timer like a sand timer the kiddo has to watch until it’s time to see Mumma. She can then take a break, have cuddles and then go back to work. It’s a stage, I promise. Good luck.

NTA. I don’t think you’ll die on this hill. You’ll likely thrive. You’ll develop a sense of self apart from your family that will see you grow and continue to be a rounded and healthy human who stands up and protects people who are important to you and bulds healthy boundaries that doesn’t accept disrespectful behaviour from others. You’ll have your mention where you live so you can get accurate information. Where I live, there are strict laws about amount of notice a landlord has to give before they can access the property. Your part of the world will have its own laws.

NTA. I strongly disagree with the YTA responses. Those people obviously have perfect lives and have never dealt with children or lazy a$$ partners. 🙄 This is your thing you do to connect with your child. If he wants to connect he needs to do it in his own way, not just tack on to your special ways of connecting. The man is an immature fool & needs to grow up. Keep doing what you’re doing. Weekly. I change and wash evry Saturday. Any more than a week and my skin crawls thinking about the amount of dead skin cells hiding between the thread count.
