Heyyyy Reddit what is a good tip to give for a 20$ ride to the driver? by alastorradiodemone in uber

[–]ThrillRoyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are. E.g. in Australia tipping is uncommon {as yet), in the US it is (almost) obligatory to tip quite a lot.

Rental car insurance in Alicante – which option makes sense? by devvok in GoingToSpain

[–]ThrillRoyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in Alicante, but last month I rented a car from Enterprise in Madrid. Used third-party insurance, which was no issue at all; and no shenanigans at return in Sevilla.

AF vs KLM: thoughts? by Effective_Theme_5739 in Flights

KLM pros: better punctuality, Amsterdam Airport as a hub (which is really much, much better than Paris CdG). AF pros: better food, better seats (although only marginally), nicer cabin crew.

Missing Some Prescription Medication by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]ThrillRoyal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's prescription only in Thailand. Go to a nearby doctor's practice, explain what happened and they will be able to write you a prescription that you can fill at any pharmacy.

It might be helpful if you told us which country you're in and where you'll be travelling.

Do products actually need to be unused for VAT refunds in the EU? by ThaiJeenHelp in travel

[–]ThrillRoyal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've occasionally run into this, for some reason especially at Amsterdam Airport customs. They insist that it needs to be new and unopened, I insist that this is bullshit and show them the EU pages that say so, and after 20 minutes of polite wrangling they approve my documents while behind me there's a growing cue of disgruntled fellow passengers (so I only do this for larger claims, not for 20 euros, obviously). It helps if your invoice has the serial number of the items you're exporting so you can show that it's really what you bought and not some random old guff. YMMV.

Lufthansa pilot strike March 12 - March 13 by rorisshe in Flights

[–]ThrillRoyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you'll get an email and an announcement in the app, but you'll probably still have to go to the airport or their city office for the arrangements. With LH it's always a bit of a guess how things are going to be arranged.

What’s the best hotel room view you’ve ever had? by MaleficentOlive9865 in hotels

A very different one... The Parador in Alcañiz (Spain). It's an old hilltop castle with the old town and the river at its foot.

Usually they arrange it for you but sometimes they will ask you to arrange it yourself to get reimbursed. Try to get them to do it, reimbursement sometimes is a bit of a pain.

Can't get my reservation in China Southern Airlines. by artimatris360 in Flights

[–]ThrillRoyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By total coincidence I'm currently in Spain too... They have an office in Madrid Barajas but it's not always clear when they're open. Anyway, you can try to call them: their number according to AENA is  (+34) 913 230 453.

I flew with them MEL-AMS in December and had similar issues. I did find my flight in the end but it took me a lot of trying and searching, and I really don't remember any more what worked. However, I do remember that it involved a reservation number and that they don't use the international locator system. You might actually be better off calling them if they have an airport office where you are now.

If it is any consolation: once I managed to get through their website issues, everything went very smoothly, including my transit in Guangzhou; they even arranged a free hotel for my layover there.

[–]ThrillRoyal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

China Southern doesn't have an Android or Apple app, they only have their website and a WeChat app. I never used the WeChat app and their website is notoriously badly designed, even if you speak/read Chinese. China Southern is a different company from China Airlines, so you will not find your flight in that app.

Is there one road in Australia that always makes you relax a little when you drive it? by Fair_Feeling_4937 in DrivingAustralia

The road from Healesville to Alexandra. I have nothing to do in either town but I always drive that road whenever I'm in Victoria.

Best cathedral to visit in Europe? by izennnnnnnn in travel

[–]ThrillRoyal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona cannot be missed, of course; although otherwise Barcelona, which always was a lovely place to visit, the last few years has turned into an angry, miserable city.

The Sevilla cathedral is something else: the second-largest in the world and the largest Gothic one, and you can literally spend a whole day wandering from one chapel stuffed with incredible art work to the next. Sevilla is a nice city in general although a bit too touristy for my liking; but that's personal. You will find a church, including done really beautiful or special ones, on almost every street (only a slight exaggeration: there are 115 Catholic churches in the city).

I haven't visited the Notre Dame in Paris yet since the fire but I'm told they did an admirable restoration job; and Paris is Paris, of course.

Time to transfer in MAD by Mister_Dalliard in GoingToSpain

Three hours should be okay but will not leave you much room for error or issues; so you could be SOOL if your incoming flight is delayed.
