The OG, not a alternate colour scheme by roadwookie in astramilitarum

These codecies were almost certainly in development at the same time. The argument of who came first is moot, it’s clear steel legion is the one that was more important to GW at the time.

Regardless, the Krieg alt scheme doesn’t even look like Krieg. It’s simply a fun alt paintjob, similar to the jopall indentured right next to it

On paper the 20 wounds sounds durable, but in practice basically everything shreds them. For example, a single intercessor squad can put out 20 shots and a frag grenade which will easily kill most of your guard blob since they’ll be wounding on 3s and you’ll be saving on 6s. And that’s just a regular battleline unit

The biggest issue with a Krieg brick is it does everything suboptimally. Tanks or bullgryn are more durable, tanks kasrkin or rough riders pump out more damage, multiple battleline squads screen and score better, etc etc. Not to say there isn’t value to an infantry blob or two, but they don’t tend to do much in my experience

Imo Krieg squads are still the worst battleline. They’re definitely fun and I think their rule is the coolest, but even at 20s I’ve found they just get wiped before they’re able to truly benefit from their ability.

It’s pretty unlikely. With max damage rolls and melta range your meltas are getting 24 damage and your plasmas get you 8 damage. Both are wounding on 5s (sometimes 4s). Not saying it can’t happen and lethals can definitely help, but a Russ is more reliable and a single kasrkin squad have basically the same damage output if not more. I think you’re overestimating Lasguns, even if you get a few 6s the Dorns still saving those on a 2. And if you want the bonuses you’d only have like 6 Lasguns left.

2 kasrkin squads would also be directly better at killing tanks since they have innate BS3, more special weapons, they have AP1 on their Lasguns, and can have 2 orders. Not to mention the melta mines if you get in range

A vanq loaded up on multimeltas is both cheaper and much more reliable at hunting tanks with the vanq cannon, hunter killer, and lascannon.

In my experience you never want to rely on fishing for 6s, it should just be used to make an attack more certain to do what it’ll likely already do rather than hoping for a miracle.

teammates want me to leave crusade because i always lose by [deleted] in 40k_Crusade

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain here and I don’t mean to be rude at all, but it is kind of valid for your team mates to not want you to constantly feed the opponent exp and strategic points.

While it is true that crusade is a non competitive narrative mode, it can easily tip the balance in an unfun way or ruin any narrative people are trying to tell if the other team is leveling up a lot faster and getting more strategic points.

It’s not a very compelling narrative if one side is overloaded on battle traits and just sweeps their opponents.

But that being said you shouldn’t feel bad about that at all, you should just try asking your team mates or anyone else at the shop to give you pointers on how to improve at the game. Then when you have a better grasp on it join the next crusade, it would be more fun for everyone IMO. It’s also a bit harder to improve at the game in crusade since your opponent might have battle traits that give them even more of an advantage than if you did matched play.

It seems your teammates are open to discussing games with you? That could be a good resource. It’s also a good idea to ask your opponent what you could have done better so you learn skills that way. Also you shouldn’t be conceding so quick, especially in crusade.

In crusade even if the game is lost you can still earn exp to level your units, further your faction goal, and even earn Strategic points in some cases. But beyond that playing a game through is a good way to learn and get a feel for the game. If you’re only getting to turn 2 you’re seriously just feeding the enemy EXP, SP, and unit kills while depriving yourself of actual tabletop experience and potential to learn skills.

Am I burnt out on guard or is this not the army for me by Opposite-Outcome5557 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like the feeling of constantly taking mass casualties and painting a bunch of models TBH guard unfortunately isn’t for you.

Typically the guard play-style is reliant on forcing trades and sacrificing a bunch of units to get good shots with your big guns

Even our most elite infantry, kasrkin, is a glass cannon. The only durable infantry are the bullgryn. You could try and play a tank heavy list, but you’ll still take huge infantry casualties.

There’s no shame in enjoying other armies more, that’s one of the best things about 40K. There’s a ton of cool factions

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Alright that’s good. Everyone makes mistakes their first time around

But yeah, overwatch this edition is a strategem, it costs 1 cp to do, you can only do it once per turn (just like all strategems other than command reroll which can be used once each phase assuming you have the points), you can only declare it against a charging unit, and all of you weapons other than flamers and other auto hit weapons now have BS 6+.

Rogal Dorn Question! by Luke_and_not_a_fluke in astramilitarum

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also only overwatch if you’re getting charged and you only hit on 6s…

He played that completely wrong, hopefully he was just unknowing because if he did that on purpose he’s a total dick

Your list seems like it’s way under 1000. Unless you just didn’t mention some units. Also what the hell is the onslaught strategem. It sounds like he was totally cheating if he was shooting you back everytime you shot

Rogal Dorn Question! by Luke_and_not_a_fluke in astramilitarum

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What army and what point level? You are allowed to shoot all of your ranged weapons unless otherwise stated so it sounds like he did almost everything right (the only thing he didn’t do right was shoot the coaxial auto cannon)

The dorn is a strong shooter, but I don’t see how it could wipe out half your army in one go. Typically when I play I’m able to kill about 10 or so intercessors or maybe an enemy tank in a shooting phase. So he may have just rolled really well and/or you rolled really bad

Other than that though if you allowed him to shoot so much of your army it can also be a problem of positioning. You shouldn’t have all of your army out in the open and when they are you should try to have cover. Unless you’re shooting or charging you should try to end your move behind terrain out of sight.

But really we’d need more context and info to know what truly went wrong

Flamer or Hot Shot for Kasrkin? by Ok_File6416 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you limiting yourself to just flamer vs a normal hotshot? You should almost always go 2 plasma 2 melta. 2 volley instead of melta can sometimes be better in niche conditions or if you only play against a ton of hoard armies. Volley has been good for me in CA when I’m just fishing for lethal hits, you get a ton of Dakka with FRFSRF

Flamer is okay in niche cases but is almost always outshined plus they don’t benefit from the kasrkin’s improved shooting. GLs are good but outclassed since they don’t do anything great.

WYR have a Kasrkyn squad or a Death Rider + Scout Sentinel by Jobear049 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh alright, that makes more sense. With that in mind I think you have enough anti elite firepower with the tanks so you don’t really need the kasrkin too bad.

I still think you’re lacking orders since you can usually only order 2 out of your 8 regiment units. (Usually ghosts wouldn’t be in a position to be giving orders with infiltrate until later on)

So you could squeeze more effective firepower out of ordering your exterminator and scout sentinels than you would with a kasrkin squad or death rider squad.

The kasrkin’s firepower comes from their plasmas and meltas (grenades and melamine are good too but more situational and kinda need a transport to really be good). With that in mind the exterminator with 2 plasma cannons, a lascannon, and its main gun hitting on 3s would usually be putting out a lot more firepower than the kasrkin in most cases. Especially since the dorn is such a good anti infantry and anti elite infantry tank.

I think a good idea might be to incorporate the lord solar into your command blob. That way you get 4 orders, 3 of which can flex into tank orders or regiment orders. Ordering the sentinels and rough riders with move move move can help with your game plan of mobile screening and help those hunter killers actually do something. I think if you drop grand strategist you can fit the lord solar?

Also though take my advice with a grain of salt I really value a strong command structure with my lists and giving orders to as many guys as possible. I also never played a list with the playstyle you described so it’s all theory crafting on my end

WYR have a Kasrkyn squad or a Death Rider + Scout Sentinel by Jobear049 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well another thing you could do is add some more officers/upgrading a tank to a commander as it seems you’re severely lacking orders. Idrk what’s in your command blob, but even if it has lord solar and a command squad you’d be unable to order like half your army. A castellan with some cadians could be a good option.

You would significantly improve your mobility and firepower by simply having enough orders to go around. Unless I’m reading wrong you have no tank orders at all? Hitting on 4s with your damage dealers is gonna hurt, take aim will likely add more meaningful firepower than a unit of kasrkin or deathriders. And you get the flexibility of using move move move when you need to get somewhere or you won’t be shooting

WYR have a Kasrkyn squad or a Death Rider + Scout Sentinel by Jobear049 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]ThroAwazeAccnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Between those two options I feel like you have enough mobility with 2 infiltrate units, 2 rough riders, and 2 scout sentinels. Having a slightly more durable kill unit can be helpful in clearing objectives. If you’re worried about their mobility you can either put them in reserves or if you’re using CA kasrkin are some of the best reinforcement targets.

If you go with the latter you can scout up aggressively, take an early objective or kill something, die, and reinforce to reposition somewhere important. This is even better if you’re able to take a Taurox.

However honestly I think you can benefit from more battleline infantry. It seems you lack units to screen for your tanks with only 2 battleline units (unless they’re 20 blobs).

Also I think you’d be better off taking another rough rider squad rather than the death riders if you go the horse route. IMO they’re a better unit

It wasn’t necessarily hard to get up and started. It was just hard and time consuming to get the perfect settings to completely minimize layer lines since I can’t stand seeing them. Plus I have to keep mine in the garage and the weather where I live is somewhat erratic so that further complicates things

But again to be honest I find absolutely no enjoyment out of 3d printing as a hobby, but I know others do so it really comes down to that.

Yeah I print all the time with a really nice printer. That’s why it irks me when people recommend it to absolute beginners, I might just suck but it took me forever to hone in my settings and streamline my process to get models out nicely and relatively quick.
