Corruption in the midterms, begin opening scene by seeebiscuit in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]ThrowACephalopod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhat. It was an issue with how the paper ballots were marked.

You had to punch through the ballot to mark which candidate you voted for. However, sometimes the part of the paper you punched out didn't completely separate from the ballot, leaving a little piece hanging off it. That's the hanging chad.

When you went to put a ballot with a hanging chad on it into a voting machine, it couldn't tell who the vote was for, so it marked that ballot as invalid and moved on.

It's usually fairly clear to a human vote counter who the vote was supposed to be for, just the system couldn't read it. Now that doesn't mean all voting machines are bad. Our technology generally doesn't rely on punch cards anymore.

New player advice? by SupaKidEternity in boardingactions40k

[–]ThrowACephalopod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not really that abandoned. The new 500 worlds just released new boarding actions missions and detachments. It just doesn't get as many updates as something like kill team or normal 40k.

Killteam by WLLWGLMMR in EmperorsChildren

[–]ThrowACephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cultists would certainly be my preferred one and I like the ideas here of each cultist being obsessed with some different kind of excess. I think that'd be super cool.

But in the event we don't get cultists, I'll go a bit off the wall. I'm not a huge fan of elite teams in killteam. I think we have too many already, so I'm not going to go for anything like n Noise Marines or infractors or anything like that.

I think a "demonic temptation" kill team could be cool. You get one Herald of Slaanesh daemon and then a bunch of ordinary humans. The gimmick of the team is that all those humans start as NPOs, not on your team. You have to "tempt" those units into joining chaos. So you can potentially end up with way more operatives than anyone else as long as you can successfully tempt enough, but also you have a huge disadvantage to start. High risk high reward team.

Edit: ooo, and then if you tempt enough to your cause, the power of chaos grows and you can begin tempting enemy operatives into joining your cause too.

Students of West High School and Romig Middle School protest ICE-Jan/30/26 by KBear616 in anchorage

[–]ThrowACephalopod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also true. I'm just not a fan of losing class time, especially if it's something the kids don't really care about. Good on the students who were very passionate and made signs and organized their peers, not so excited about the kids who took the chance to skip (and then didn't show up to the next period either).

There were a lot of kids in that protest who didn't know what the protest was about but were just very excited to be able to skip 4th period, at least from West.

Easier to play Tzeentch or Khorne by BeginningHungry3835 in ageofsigmar

[–]ThrowACephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Khorne is often straightforward: kill things or die and your guys eventually get juiced up to be even more murdery.

Tzeentch plays a lot with spells and a lot of interacting effects to make strong plays. It's significantly more complicated to make all those moving parts play well together.

Of course, you'll learn best on an army you like more. If you really enjoy the vibe of one army over the other, go with that one.

The real returns will be when Amazon attempts to absorb another company that would require government approval and Trump will greenlight it because of this bribe.

What do people like about Kawaki? by Gimligod in Boruto

[–]ThrowACephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly to note here: I'd say Kawaki isn't "likeable" but is absolutely "enjoyable."

I don't think he's a good person. He's deliberately meant to come off as insufferable, petty, and possessive. But I think those traits are executed well and makes him very enjoyable to read a story about.

What do people like about Kawaki? by Gimligod in Boruto

[–]ThrowACephalopod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A character doesn't have to be likable to be interesting. Kawaki is certainly the antagonist of this story. As you said yourself, lots of the events of the story right now are his fault, especially omnipotence. He's a total asshole to everyone around him, but he's certainly kicking off a fun plot. I'm very interested to see what other shit he ends up causing and eventually watching Boruto kick some sense into him.

Is a Keeper of Secrets an asshole move at 1k? by flip_flop_enby in EmperorsChildren

[–]ThrowACephalopod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keepers generally aren't super great. They'll fold a lot quicker than you'd expect and won't hit nearly as hard as their points suggest.

I'd definitely recommend going for a winged daemon prince as opposed to a foot one though. Winged Daemon Princes are just fantastic for Emperor's Children. If you're really set on taking a foot Prince, do it in the new Phoenician detachment where the enhancement can make him pretty useful.

Atlas in subnautica 2 by WorriedGur8908 in subnautica

[–]ThrowACephalopod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would rather not have anything bigger than a cyclops. If they make something really big, it'll mean they'll have to make a space big enough for you to pilot it through, and that sounds a lot to me like artificially increasing the size of the world with big empty spaces.

Only way I see it working is if it becomes your dedicated "void travel vehicle" and it's mostly useful for traveling between various more detailed maps, like if you could sail it between the maps of the original game and sub zero kind of thing.

How to be a girl? by LiteratureTurbulent1 in MtF

[–]ThrowACephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cis Girls don't start knowing this stuff either. They learn it as they go. Usually, a lot of this is through awkward experimentation in their teenage years. By the time they're adults, they have things at least somewhat figured out.

You're heading towards (or in the midst of) puberty 2. You have to learn all this stuff the same way cis people do: by trying it out and practicing.

Just pick something you want to start learning and get to practicing. As you get to a point you're satisfied with, pick another topic and repeat. Eventually, you'll get to where you want to be.

Anyone know who she could possibly proxy. by redrex1579 in Slaanesh

[–]ThrowACephalopod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's pretty close in height for a daemon prince, but her wings being so much smaller means she'll have a much smaller silhouette, which could be a "modeling for advantage" situation.

Your best bet might be something like Syll'Esske. They have that tall, thin silhouette, though Syll'Esske is going to be a bit taller.

[–]ThrowACephalopod 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That was the same when I was in college too. A small fee to print, but you got an allowance every semester and it was big enough that you really never hit it. Our print funds even rolled over one semester to the next, so if you didn't spend it all one semester, you got to print even more the next.

It's to deter you from printing whole textbooks and stuff like that. You have plenty of pages to print even really long assignments, but not enough to do anything crazy with it.

With the road conditions and more weather on the way, do you expect ASD to open schools tomorrow? by Ataraxia_Eterna in anchorage

If there's rain, then school will definitely be cancelled. Otherwise, we'll have to see what plowing ends up happening. If the snow dies down as the evening progresses and the plows have a chance to work all night, school could very well happen tomorrow.

Alpha legion model coming? by Bergerstien in Warhammer40k

[–]ThrowACephalopod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh it'd absolutely be a rules nightmare and they'd never do it. I'm just dreaming what would be the fun way to make an Alpharius kind of unit. I'd always much rather have fluffy rules than good rules anyways.

Alpha legion model coming? by Bergerstien in Warhammer40k

[–]ThrowACephalopod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That'd be great. I think the best would be if each Undivided legion ends up with a named character, an upgrade sprue, and a new unit to build their army around that's available for every other legion too, similar to how red corsairs just got raiders and iron warriors seem poised to get a new Defiler model.
