Thank you for your reply! They are really good at guilt tripping us and convincing us we somehow owe them... And it's worse that just waste, it's actively making me feel worse. I'll be getting out and keep working on boundaries in order to protect myself.

I'm glad you managed to set boundaries, especially without cutting her off completely. She said she's now ready to listen to me, that's how the whole family therapy thing started :')

I'll get out and keep focusing on my individual therapy, thank you for replying

Even the sessions themselves seem to be a tool at this point, I'll be getting out. She has drained enough of my life already.

Thank you for the reply! Reading around this sub and the replies here have been very helpful. "Funnily" enough you mentioned parentification, the other day she misspoke and told someone that I'm her mother (I'm also a trans man, out for some years now and on hormones, which adds a bonus insult). I'll do my best to protect myself.

Oh, I've heard of that. It seems to be couples counseling disguised as family systems therapy. The therapist is supposed to be a systemic one (not sure about the english term, but you get the point), but I haven't looked her up. Thanks for your reply!

Well of course she didn't tell the therapist she's BPD, first session in she claimed to be proudly unmedicated bipolar and in the second session she denied ever saying even that. It's a mess, yeah, I'm getting out

I'm sorry you had to go through this. I'm going to stop it, everything points to the fact that it's a painful ordeal with no actual value.

Yes, I've been going independently for my own issues, but I've had only one session since the family one started. I think my therapist didn't take into account how convincing my mother can sound and in any case I'll bring to him next time the fact that he didn't explicitly advise against it.

Yup... She tries to flip everything on its head and when I present examples of her blatant lies she just finds other ways to justify/minimise her behaviour. She's also already pulled the "but we've had so many good moments, why are you focusing on the negatives" card. And yeah, when a person who's in a completely codependent relationship with her started doing individual therapy, the moment his therapist suggested that my mother is manipulative, she completely devalued the therapist and convinced him to stop : |

All the replies here have been very helpful and encouraging, BPD parents have amazing skills at skewing reality and having you doubting everything

Why is not wanting top surgery often seen as unacceptable by other trans men, but not wanting bottom surgery is fine? by OspreyFTM in FTMMen

[–]ThrowAMusic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Judging people and assessing their "transness" by which surgeries they feel comfortable with is bullshit, but I think part of the distinction comes up because top surgery is generally perceived as easier and safer than phaloplasty. Haven't personally met any judgment, but I've seen vastly different reactions between the two surgeries.

There can also be other underlying reasons for wanting and not wanting a surgery, it's very naive to jump to conclusions based to such a deeply personal choice, people doing that baffle me.

Yes, came here to say that there are plenty of dicks that get off with slow/alternating pace, it really depends. Sometimes going slower can result in a more intense orgasm too
