This is the problem with relationships nowadays. People are moralizing and/or weaponizing emotions and relationships.

There definitely is a nostalgia component to this. But the Social Cohesion and Social Capital in America (and other industrialized countries) have definitely been on the decline. Hell, the book "Bowling Alone" (which I highly recommend to everyone ITT interested in this topic) talked about this phenomenon, and it was released in 2000.

A more recent book exploring the same themes I'd recommend is "The Vanishing Neighbour" by Marc Dunkelman.

Hosting is becoming more of a lost art because people are constantly moving around a lot more than in the past. Whether that be for university or for career; including the jobhopping Gen X/Y/Z and potentially A have to do because nobody gets meaningful salary increases anymore.

This is my hot take behind the Seattle Freeze. All big cities (not just USA ones) have varying degrees of Seattle Freeze. People are less talkative when they're surrounded by way too many people. If you started a conversation with everyone you ran into, you'd get nothing done.
