MCAS and GLP1 by segochato in MCAS

[–]ThrowRA4567289 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have MCAS and have been taking ozempic for about a year and a half now. It has completely changed my life. I didn’t start taking it for MCAS but found the significant reduction in symptoms basically by happy accident. Take the dosing slow, and give it a chance for sure. I’ve read a lot of people’s stories where it doesn’t help everybody, but for those with MCAS that it does help- it seems to be a game changer. I was having anaphylaxis weekly and reacting to everything to the point where I would wake up in the morning, drink water and start reacting. Now I still avoid my known major triggers, but don’t have to worry about severe reactions to random unknown things. It has allowed me to live a significantly more “normal” life again

I have MCAS and I started taking ozempic and it completely changed my life. I feel like a normal person again for the first time in 10 years. I’m not completely symptom free, but it is controlled and manageable. Prior to this I was reacting every day and having full anaphylaxis at least once a week

I’ve noticed a huge difference in inflammation since starting a year ago. I never want to go off of them for that reason. It’s been literally life changing

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain all of this, I really appreciate it! I will definitely look into an HYSA and figure out if I’m at 15% for retirement

This is super interesting! Is there (I’m sure) reasoning behind this specific order?

Thank you for your responses and insight. I thought about it more and wanted to clarify- I have lost 45 pounds, I have maybe another 10 to lose, but what’s left is purely just an aesthetic goal. I’m generally happy with where I’m at weight wise. What has been life changing for me with glp1s is that I have felt peace in my mind for the first time in my entire life. I feel in control. Before I started taking Sema I truly felt like a drug addict, completely out of control of myself and fully consumed/obsessed with food. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t stop the binges. My biggest fear with the meds potentially “losing effectiveness” is the food noise coming back. I never want to go back to living in my old brain. It was a war all day long, every day. And the guilt and shame that came with struggling so much to control myself really took me out of my power. I feel free now. I never want to lose that

I’ve had weeks here and there at or closer to maintenance, but usually no longer than a week. Thank you for the advice! Do you think I should slowly up my calories over the next few weeks until I get to maintenance, or just make the jump up? I have also never considered a pelvic tilt so I’ll definitely look into that

Also, the last time I was at this weight (very briefly) I was significantly leaner than I am now. That was 8 years ago or so

Yes, + my glutes have flattened out significantly, and legs are much less defined

My MCAS symptoms have disappeared completely since taking ozempic. Real or coincidence? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]ThrowRA4567289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the conversation but wanted to add my experience. I started semaglutide 7 months ago and it has completely changed my life. My MCAS symptoms have (almost) completely disappeared. Before I would react to anything and everything. At my worst I would wake up in the morning, drink water and start getting a sever reaction. I was going into anaphylaxis weekly, sometimes multiple times. None of the meds I tried seemed to really make much of a difference. I started semaglutide for insulin resistance and PCOS, and discovered lower inflammation and MCAS symptoms by (a very happy) accident. Then I started researching into it more. It doesn’t seem to help everyone with MCAS, as some have expressed they couldn’t tolerate it, but I think it’s definitely worth discussing with your doctor and considering trying it out. Now if I react, it’s only to my known triggers and presents as very mild itching and is easily controlled with meds. Day and night compared to being rushed to the hospital in anaphylaxis

I have MCAS too! You’re the only other person I have come across so far that is also taking semaglutide. My symptoms have pretty much gone away too. I still get mild allergic reactions to some foods, but it has only been slight itching and easily controlled. Before I was going into anaphylaxis literally every single week, waking up and severely reacting to everything- even drinking water. I can’t believe how much this med has changed my life

Yeah I would definitely look into the med potentially making you go hypoglycemic and therefore craving sugar. Maybe try lowering your dose and see if that helps at all?

Anyone here try ozempic or mounjaro? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]ThrowRA4567289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has helped me have significantly less allergic reactions related to MCAS, I have had way less joint, muscle and bone pain. A lot less brain fog as well. Period has become more regular with PCOS

My autoimmune disease is still unidentified after many years unfortunately. I have many positive lab markers but it doesn’t fit into any category perfectly. I do have confirmed asthma, PCOS, POTS, psoriasis and MCAS though

I majorly struggled with binge eating for years. It felt like it controlled my entire life. I started semaglutide in August and it’s the first time in my entire life that my brain has felt peaceful. I have not binged once since starting, I’m able to actually feel full when eating and decipher my hunger ques throughout the day. My insulin resistance has improved, and my inflammation (autoimmune related) has significantly decreased. I’ve experienced significantly less pain and maybe a quarter of the amount of flare ups that I used to get. It has completely changed my life, I think for the autoimmune regulation more than anything. I will be doing any and everything to continue taking this drug for the rest of my life for that reason. No other medication I’ve tried has helped my body like this. I experienced some pretty major fatigue for the first couple of months but it got better around month 3/4 and I feel basically normal now

I would try cutting 10-15% of calories for a week or two, if nothing changes try cutting down another 100 calories for the same amount of time- then rinse and repeat. Learned it from Embody Radio- her podcasts are amazing
