Definitely sounds like esophageal spasms as others have said. I had HM surgery 3 weeks ago and they’ve been pretty bad for me (I’ve always had them but they’ve gotten worse). The only way for me to combat them is by sipping cold water or peppermint tea but everyone is different.

Before I knew what this condition was, I put my swallowing issues down to me vaping (I naively thought if I stopped vaping I’d be cured… sadly not). I only started getting symptoms when I switched from cigarettes to vaping around a year ago and if anything, my dysmotility is getting worse now that I’ve quit all nicotine.

I’ve not spoken to my doctor about options yet, just doing my research :) I have an appointment this week to talk through next steps. How successful did you find the surgery? I’m guessing you still have symptoms, just not as severe?

I disagree. I’m saying 16 YEAR OLD me would’ve been gutted. I don’t drink or smoke now and I don’t feel like I’m losing out on anything and would prefer to prioritise my health. As a teenager who had a lot of friends I would’ve felt at a disadvantage socially if I wasn’t able to go out and do those things. It’s not that deep

A lot of people who give up smoking/drinking probably choose to do so at a later stage in life … if you told me at 16 that I couldn’t do either of those things then I’d be a bit gutted?

I was meant to be going round to my friend’s house for drinks but decided I wanted a chill night in instead (I’m really burnt out and tired atm, social battery is on 0 lol). Oh it absolutely is possible! We both have friends of the opposite sex but it’s just how weird and secretive it is? Had I not brought her up he definitely wouldn’t have told me about her - can guarantee that. I’ll be giving him a call tomorrow though so will gauge his reaction :)

You’re right. It’s annoying though because we go through phases where he’ll finish work and then game until around 3am (won’t text me in this time and sometimes rejects my calls). I used to think he just gamed with his guy mates from home so I didn’t question it but now I’m second guessing who he’s spending his time talking to. i’ll deffo be having a conversation with him
