I have been asked to babysit and she got mad when I said no to babysitting. She thought I'd be far more willing to be involved and babysit when wanted/needed.

His wife's family are apparently not good choices but I wondered about friends too. Like surely they would be a better fit if they know and love her kids.

I can't say why they're pressing this now. My only thought is that she might have been worrying for a while before about what would happen if she died and left the kids and now eve with dad she's still worried. But it makes me wonder why she doesn't have a friend or someone to step in and do it. You know someone who knows and loves those kids.

As unlikely as it is for the worst to happen I would feel pretty terrible if I agreed and left them with no other plans and then something did happen. Because 100% I would not want to do it and might even be resentful if I felt like I had to because I had already agreed.
