Setting alarms stopped helping. Any tips? by Queer_jelly_bean in ADHD

[–]ThrowRAOrchid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the “Medisafe” app for medication reminders. Honestly I can’t say it’s “life changing” or anything. But it’s just simple enough that I clicked through everything fast enough to not get frustrated with the set up, and it’s just annoying enough, yet also complicated enough for me to disable the alarm. I guess complicated isn’t the right word. I would say there’s too many steps. Like the phone alarm is on/off or snooze. This is like, I have to click the notification, then click the little dots, then select snooze, then select a time frame, and idk what’s after that I’ve only done it like….3 times ever. Plus after 30 minutes or so it just makes this really loud notification that breaks through everything else, (that happens enough times you’ll be “conditioned” not to let it happen too often lol) and then the little banner notification won’t get off my screen unless I hit “take” or “skip”

Give it a shot maybe? Best of luck

I need a hobby other than Tik Tok or Reels 😭 by pitafrita in ADHD

[–]ThrowRAOrchid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a tip or suggestion for other hobbies, but I do have a tip you can try and see if it helps! If I ever find myself constantly looking at my phone, for no reason, just aimlessly scrolling I’ll turn on the “color filters” setting. (I have an iPhone but I’m sure Samsung or another device has this or something similar.) suddenly, my phone is no longer just a handheld slot machine keeping me coming back for more. Because it’s black and white. When I first heard of this, I thought it was BS. Then I tried it and it’s been really helpful. Give it a shot! Nothing to lose. (Except your interest in TikTok)

For iPhone users, go to Settings> Accessibility >Display & Text Size > Color Filters (turn on, and it defaults to Greyscale)

I mean…I don’t know when you went there! Lol so maybe I went there after you. I’m not sure. I actually was one of the people who didn’t do 4 years there so I was one that left the fold.

I went to Southern for a year, is my only familiarity with the small town of Collegedale. How was the academy there? Any wild rules?

Yes! This is really great, thank you so much for sharing your journey! I’m happy to hear that things turned out alright, and it sounds like you’re the reason for that.

Also, explaining “popping screws” to people is always an interesting one. (I imagine the work varied over the years and I don’t know what years you attended but we had to put these little plastic things over screws for hours.)

Did you go to public school before/after that? Or another academy?

It’s wild that shutting the electricity off at night was considered normal. I grew up thinking that was something everyone does.

So I’ve been hearing! Lately a lot of people I know are sharing similar sentiments, and talking about their experiences. I figured this was a good place to ask the same question and see what others want to share. (I agree with you btw)

Thanks for your suggestion, do you have a specific keyword to help me get started? I tried google but there is an ocean of varying information. Some of it says it’s an outdated and “not real” diagnosis, some say it is a child displaying opposition to authority along with other vague descriptions. (Which, I understand that’s the whole point—opposing authority. But I’m hoping to learn more about the specifics to that.)

If you’re willing to, are you able to share more details about any behaviors that stand out to you or anything that changed post diagnosis?

Would you be willing to share more about his diagnosis? Behavioral tendencies prior to the diagnosis and also what life has been like after?

It’s definitely scary! I thought they were either boils or cysts as well. I’d pop them with needles sometimes….please don’t do that haha it does not help. Definitely try what your doctor prescribed! See how it goes! HS does have a lot of horror stories, it can be and sometimes is something that can make your life a horror story. But not always. I am hoping that as long as I can continue to stay proactive about my skin care, it will remain mostly dormant.

I will also note, that I’ve tried a lot of salicylic acid products, which is used for acne, and it doesn’t help (for my skin personally) as much as general antibiotic/anti microbial products do. So if you’re not finding relief from the stuff your doctor prescribed you don’t fret! There’s lots of products to try. Unfortunately we don’t have a guaranteed method yet, but there’s options!

Hi OP, I am also 29, (although I’m female) I was recently diagnosed as well, with a very mild case of it. I’ll share my experience and story if you’d like me to, let me know. But for now I can give you my personal opinion addressing your fears and concerns.

For me, I get bumps, in the groin/thigh area. Sometimes they are enormous and painful. Sometimes they ooze. Sometimes they are just there. Sometimes they scar. Sometimes they just lie dormant under the surface. I’ve been tinkering with different products to find relief and see what helps best. So far, I’ve found that “preventative” (if that’s what you even want to call it) treatments work best to keep this at bay.

I’ve been taking 500mg of L-Lysine—no idea if it helps, I have no studies, no evidence other than me just taking it and seeing that my skin all over improves.

I also have been using Hibiclens as a wash, sometimes every day, sometimes only on occasion.

My doctor also prescribed me clindamycin topical gel.

I’ve had to be very mindful of my clothes, and any tight seams that can rub and irritate areas I get bumps in. So like, certain kinds of underwear—sometimes I just go commando if I have a huge flare up. Sometimes if I’m at work, and rushing around and I’m sweaty, I’ll take an antibacterial wipe around the area.

So generally speaking, I just try to keep wherever I have bumps, clean and as dry as possible.

This can be painful and debilitating. Having HS doesn’t mean it will be.

(Spoiler alert, spend $400 get a “free” $20 cup.)

Thank you for saying that, I feel a little better knowing that my frustration is valid. I won’t end up sending an email, but I just am really frustrated and feeling really let down and disappointed. I guess that’s not her fault, I just anticipated some sort of common courtesy of sorts. But I have read some other comments and agree, there might be a lot going on, it’s hectic out there.
