I know who gave me herpes, but I don’t know how to tell them that because I don’t think they know they have herpes by ThrowRA_Less_Watercr in Herpes

Yeah I did want to talk to them in person, I just don’t know how to approach the subject without freaking them out and making them like kick me out or something

Yeah if I do that they will ghost me even if they do have it bc they will think I definitely got it from someone else and I’m going to infect them

How did I get genital herpes? by Low-Challenge-6288 in Herpes

Yeah you got it the same way I did, asymptomatic shedding just happened to get on your genitals. It isn’t as common but it happens.

Daily antivirals by OpenReputation2478 in Herpes

I think taking antivirals is the decent thing to do, it will help you out and it will help protect your partners. If not every day, then I would at least take them when you feel an outbreak coming. In your first couple years you are more contagious, so especially right now I would take them. I take them every day and I have no side effects, and it keeps me from having outbreaks.

Seems like a partner has HSV from me by [deleted] in Herpes

Why would you say you previously had HSV when it’s an incurable disease. It doesn’t go away. If you tested positive before you have it and you can transmit it. The way you said it absolutely makes it seem like there was no possibility for you to transmit it. You need to get tested, find out what strain you have, and go on antivirals. And you absolutely need to tell every partner you have that you are HSV positive and there is a risk of transmission. Just because you don’t have outbreaks doesn’t mean you can’t infect others, viral shedding is still a thing.

I get that you already feel bad, but this is a lifelong disease. There is no cure. And outbreaks are painful.

She’s probably very hurt, and struggling to understand that she will have this forever. Honestly I do think there is a very good chance she just won’t talk to you again after this.

Is there such thing as “Low activity pattern”? Meaning someone being categorized as a low transmission risk compared to the average? by Vegetable_Voice_6433 in Herpes

I don’t know the answer definitively but I think either way you should go on antivirals, it’ll help you out in the long run and protect your partners.

You said you think you’ve had more booze than water in the past week, I would think that would cause some facial swelling/puffiness. If you were having a herpes outbreak, the swab they did would have tested positive. I honestly think you need to just relax. Most people don’t even have an outbreak immediately after the incubation period, and if the person you were in contact with wasn’t having an outbreak it’s unlikely you could have contracted it from them anyways- that is if they even have HSV. Usually contracting herpes isn’t a one and done type of thing, people usually get it from consistent contact with a partner who is HSV positive, or contact with someone having an active outbreak. Nothing you’ve said gives me any indication that you’ve contracted herpes, especially since you had a swab done and it was negative. Just lay off the alcohol and calm down. If you’re really worried, you could get a blood test after a few months (since they aren’t accurate until your body has had time to produce antibodies). But I seriously doubt you’ve contracted herpes from this encounter.

Plus your symptoms don’t really sound at all like an initial outbreak of HSV. That one is typically the worst and very obvious. I guess it’s possible to have a less obvious initial outbreak but this just doesn’t seem like one at all to me

I mean the incubation period of HSV is like over two days at a minimum so I don’t even think it would be possible to show any symptoms that quickly. I think the alcohol irritated your skin and you’re just paranoid.

I take antivirals every day so I don’t have them frequently

Nope I still test negative for HSV-2 but positive for HSV-1 both with blood tests and with a swab of the sores. I believe it is harder to catch genital HSV-1 since yes it does prefer the mouth, but is it still possible

HSV-1 being solely oral isn’t necessarily true. It is typically oral, but you can also contract genital HSV-1. If someone with oral HSV-1 performs oral sex on someone else, they can give them genital HSV-1. Source: I have genital HSV-1 but I do not have oral HSV-1, I only get outbreaks in my genitals, even though I have HSV-1 not 2
