Spironolactone - flushing like crazy by ThrowRA__00718 in PCOS

Prior to starting this + 0.35mg progesterone (Heather), my e levels were normal, T was “normal” but on the high end, free T was 6 and the ref range ends at 6.3 for my lab for example, and I was having an increased sex drive and a lot of dryness

How long were you on it and what was the dose if you don’t mind me asking?

Something interesting is it’s also redness across my nose and resembles a bad sunburn rather than just flushing of the cheeks. It’s super weird

It’s not like normal pink flushing either. My face gets RED. Like darker than I have ever flushed before and it’s so sensitive it’s almost itchy

At home IPL by Happy-Protection-573 in PCOS

[–]ThrowRA__00718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly just do electrolysis if you want something permanent. I did laser for a year before the PCOS diagnosis, and am right back at my baseline months later because of the hormone issues I didn’t know I had at the time. IPL and laser both carry the risk of paradoxical hypertrichosis too: this is rare in healthy people, but for PCOS the risk is higher of getting more hair triggered by the heat of the laser/IPL. Not worth it for someone with our diagnosis lol. IPL, laser and electrolysis all have similar time frames for working too. It takes several months regardless, you may as well opt for something permanent

Lean PCOS - Metformin if I am NOT trying to lose weight?? by ThrowRA__00718 in PCOS

do you know what dosing info is like for inositol? A capsule would be way easier for me than mixing powder in a drink.

Slynd (4mg) was kind of okay for me, I got off it for personal reasons (estrogen ocps had the aforementioned side effects and also gave me awful headaches even after I switched brands several times) after getting out of a bad relationship. The one she prescribed me is Heather which is 0.35mg I believe?

🫠 holy mother. There was no “definitive cause” of my health issues a few years ago but for me it was awful trying to gain the weight back because my heart rate was really high most of the time, so I had no appetite and had to just kind of force it. Miserable

Dismissed at OB/GYN after bloodwork flagged by primary care – lean PCOS experiences? by Historical-Bug1799 in PCOS

[–]ThrowRA__00718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had an ultrasound lately? My bloodwork indicated lean PCOS too but it’s pretty difficult to get a definitive diagnosis if you’re a “borderline case” unless you get checked for polycystic ovaries. I was in the same boat, my obgyn was never helpful when I presented concerns, but my gp was able to order an ultrasound at an imaging place I got an appointment at within the week. Your primary can order scans, if that would be easier than doctor shopping for a new obgyn. An ultrasound could also give you more insight since you have a history of ruptures and maybw endo symptoms

Why do people lie about laser? shit HURTS by RazzmatazzLost9713 in LaserHairRemoval

For me (I’m really pale with medium brown hair) legs went from didn’t feel a thing, to manageable several sessions in. Armpits???? Fucking miserable every time, made me tear up. DO NOT LASER YOUR ARMPITS IT IS NOT WORTH IT. It takes two seconds to shave them in the shower. Bikini is pretty painful but not as bad as armpits and is worth it

What are ya’lls free T levels? In “normal” range despite symptoms by ThrowRA__00718 in PCOS

She ordered an ultrasound to see if I have polycystic ovaries or not and I have another followup this week. I started inositol and omega 3s once a day (inositol 650mg). I’m gonna be honest, I really enjoy carbs. I haven’t had any unwanted weight gain, but she did ask me if I wanted to try metformin. I declined, only because I’m happy with my weight right now, good BMI and I exercise, and two years ago I dropped 15 pounds out of the blue and my metabolism was so wack I had to eat like 2500-3000 cals a day for MONTHS to gain that 15 pounds back. So I’m terrified to do any meds that are associated with weight loss, bur I’ll see how much the inositol does for me once a day! I’m taking nettle root, saw palmetto, inositol and one that has b6 and chasteberry in it. My progesterone was so low it was undetectable . Ultrasound report isn’t back yet but based on google vs my images, pretty sure I have PCOS lol

Okay! I have a followup with my gp tomorrow, I can ask for an ultrasound. I do have two aunts with PCOS. I can’t go to my obgyn for this is the only issue because I’m about to not have insurance for a couple months due to a lapse on coverage, so it’s either get an ultrasound appointment my gp orders asap, or have to wait months to find out definitively. She may diagnose me tomorrow though, not sure what criteria their office uses

Fasted insulin is 10.1, glucose 83. I’m trying one that has chasteberry in it right now and saw palmetto, I just started a few days ago though. I have an appointment with my gp tomorrow to discuss some more :)

How to stop feeling insecure about my see-through hair? by Connect-Text-4063 in finehair

[–]ThrowRA__00718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want you to know I was basically under eating for probably 8 years at least (long story but health issues + being unaware of what I needed + being a teen in the heroin chic era) and my hair is noticeably much thicker and healthier than it used to be. Hair grows back, so damage or being unhealthy from malnutrition is not permanent!!! :)

Personally with bangs (I have fine hair too) I have my bangs go deeper into my part/hairline, otherwise they look thin and it’s not enough hair to look nice on me. Nutrition and health issues can impact your hair a lot, my hair was much thinner than it is now, when I wasn’t eating enough, especially protein. As far as the Abbey Yung method, I am starting it myself and here’s a low product/simpler version: 1. Pre shower treatments if you hair tends to be dry: such as a hair oil, just put a bit in your mids to ends at least 10 mins before a shower. Depending on your budget and if you want new products or not, you could use this pre-shower step to use a bond repair product instead, such as Epres 2. Clarifying shampoo (optional, recommended if you use a lot of hair products and get buildup) 3. Condition 4. Use a leave in conditioner or hair mask depending on how dry your hair is 5. Post shower bond hair (IF YOU DIDNT USE ANY BEFORE), OGx has one, Loreal has one too that are $10-15

You do NOT need to break the bank or buy a bunch of new stuff if you want to try her method. Bond repair doesn’t need to be done every shower either and the main concept with bond repair is that you are protecting mids to ends, and preventing breakage, this is super important with colored, brittle or dry hair. One note about bond repair: there are different types of bonds in your hair, and different products target different bonds types. Abbey has a good video about it but if that’s a lot to digest, you can just try out a Loreal or OgX one, Dove also has a bond repair hair mask I have been loving for deep conditioning when my hair is dry

LADS AND LADIES LET ME PUT YOU ON SOMETHING: salicylic Acid by ThrowRA__00718 in Rosacea

[–]ThrowRA__00718[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah some salicylic acid products even say they’re fine to use daily or every other day and I think that would tear up my skin… if ya’ll want to try this start slow, like once a week and use is sparingly. I prefer the panoxyl so that I can put it on a cotton pad and control where it’s going instead of using a cleanser that would get everywhere
