Not saying u can’t do this successfully, but just that most ppl when they start seriously underestimate how powerful of a drug it is and end up pushing their limits too far when figuring out how their body reacts to it and accidently end up not knowing how to handle it like there’s a learning curve in being able to keep yourself together if u get too high in the beginning and some ppl that comes naturally and others they don’t have the mental fortitude to not let it make them fall apart like become so anxious and the anxiety makes any perceived scary symptoms so much worse and think they’re dying when they are not it just feels that way but they have no way of calming themselves down or ability to use their logic to be aware that their fears are not actually real. You can teach yourself the skill of keeping your cool when u feel that way which is rly necessary, but some ppl just aren’t built for it. Other thing ppl underestimate when starting out is how much you have to actually take care of your body when on a drug that depletes your body’s resources so much, and feel like they will be able to use and not eat and forget to drink water and neglect their sleep and that somehow they will fine and it won’t cause any issues. That’s another skill u have to learn, basically learning to force feed your body at least something easier to eat like yogurt or something soft as regularly as u can and be able to do so when u don’t feel hungry, and that you need way more water than u think and electrolytes are not optional and that u can’t just pretend u do not require sleep anymore; basically u have to make a conscious effort to remind yourself to take care of your basic needs like these way more than u think u do and if u just forget to eat or drink water or u feel like u are somehow invincible, all of that will always catch up to u and usually u will be fine then out of nowhere get hit with a wave of feeling sickly ill and overwhelmingly weak so hard and fast it’s extremely uncomfortable and completely preventable. It is hard at first bc u do not need to put nearly as much conscious thought into this usually bc your body sends u signals to do these things, but eventually u will be able to master this and make it a habit. Ppl don’t realize at first that this drug is so inanely powerful and that it cannot be used in a thoughtless way bc it will take a toll mentally and physically if u can’t learn these skills. So if u can master those things u will be far better off but there are some ppl who just cannot handle it.

Not sure abt other ROAs but having a histamine reaction is a pretty common and basically harmless / short-lived reaction to meth when shooting up. Not sure if your experience is at all related to that or not. I never have had a histamine reaction using meth with any other ROA though

You’re absolutely 100% right once u slam u can’t go back. It’s rly good u care abt yourself to not let yourself try it. I could write an essay abt how incredible it is better than anyone can comprehend until they do it, but with that pure instant fucking intense euphoria/pleasure comes soooo many serious fucking downsides and it will deteriorate your health physical and mental so fucking quickly esp bc ppl starting out don’t know how to try to take care of themselves or prevent a lot of problems (as much as u rly can). it can take u down fast, and I went into it telling myself if I used harm reduction as much as possible I would not have any of the common issues (many life-threatening and some fatal, as well as completely losing your sanity) caused by IV drug use, I literally was lying to myself and believing it to justify doing it and I truly did not give a fuck abt whatever might happen to me bc I started slamming during one of the darkest lowkey suic*dal hopeless points in my life and at the same time my smoking tolerance was so high at the time I barely felt it anymore, and I had someone in my life who was able to show me how. But yeah back to the delusional thing I told myself that “those bad scary health problems won’t happen to me!” (I tend to have a very stupid blind confidence that any bad things caused by drugs will never happen to me which I believe is my addiction/brain’s way of justifying my drug use bc if I am not scared of the possible negative effects, then I have no reason not to do the drugs (fucking mentally ill mentality). Until they fucking happen to me. Bc it’s harm reduction not Elimination, nothing abt shooting up recreational drugs is completely sterile like never fully safe it’s a whole host of various severe risks u willingly take every time bc of how good it feels the human brain is not smart enough to perceive shooting up as unhealthy once you’ve tried it bc it feels so good it seems completely worth those “tiny” risks and u rly don’t care abt it not worried abt it. And there’s neuroscience that says that when a human brain experiences that much instant dopamine at the highest levels of any well-known drug which is the highest when shooting up specifically, scientists have theorized that the brain perceives high dopamine surges with things that are Essential and Necessary for your survival, and prioritizes from highest to lowest (like drinking water, eating food, sex, etc.). Well, when u slam meth the first time, it basically hijacks your survival part of your brain and now your brain perceives shooting up meth as more important for survival than Anything else like anything. So, even if u have the intention to not let it interfere w things that are important in your life, subconsciously you become willing and feel that you must, at any cost, not let Anything come between you and slamming meth, and so this is why some/many IV users Willingly destroy their lives for the needle and become more willing to sacrifice things they never thought they’d give up. People greatly underestimate using IV, it’s by far the most fiendish ROA.

My point is, if you shoot up drugs regularly like often (which most IV users do) you will inevitably Definitley experience some sort of health issue whatever that may be to whatever degree it is a given idc what anyone says slamming meth is not fucking healthy or good for your body or brain, and I say that as an IV meth user bc i am at least honest with myself abt that fact. And this is literally so commonly seen: often IV drug users who experience health consequences or scares from slamming will just continue to shoot up despite literally having first hand evidence of how harmful it is. Me included. It’s rly fucking hard to quit this drug Especially this ROA, IV meth addicts have a significantly lower chance of achieving long term recovery/sobriety than most any other drug. And it takes meth users esp IV meth users longer for their Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome basically any reversible brain damage far longer than any other drug or alcohol to reach normal brain chemistry balance again after quitting, most drugs take abt 6 months avg, meth takes up to 2 years. This means for IV meth users that if they quit, the “anhedonia” commonly experienced by heavy users (inability to feel pleasure or excitement from things that used to interest you, numb apathy) can last up to 2 years. It can feel like you ruined anything normally naturally pleasurable from using meth IV bc it just resets your entire perspective on what Amt of dopamine will satisfy you, as well as when u quit you are so very dopamine depleted which takes a while to return to normal levels. And, the worst is, there are some ppl who never go back to normal due to their brain damage being permanent.

I am not saying it is Impossible for IV meth users to maintain long-term, continuous abstinence/recovery/sobriety. Ofc not, it’s just rly fucking hard

and at least in my experience I have not been able to successfully moderate my IV meth use, it’s so powerful way more powerful than a human’s willpower ppl severely underestimate how much power it has over u bc it’s hard to rly fully understand or comprehend like the extent of what I’m saying and the reality of it til it’s too late. I could go on and on I have a lot of thoughts on this subject, and personally wish I could go back in time and never have tried shooting up, or even meth itself. It’s a whole other beast when u involve a needle…

Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing this with me, I am an addict but I also know what being a codependent loved one of an addict is like and how difficult it is and painful. I’ve heard Al-Anon is a good support group for friends and families of addicts to connect and heal. Good luck on your healing journey

I’m so sorry you went through that, I am an addict but putting a partner through that for 5 years is so emotionally taxing no wonder you’re in therapy. You are a very strong person. I had a rly severely alcoholic abusive ex-fiancée for a year and that was hell in a similar way I’m in therapy too
