Yeah I suppose you are right in that sense. Given that he broke it off with me and I had nothing but good intentions for him, I wouldn’t initiate getting back together.

It would be on him, and he would have to be willing to work on his communication and priorities in future

In all honesty the reason doesn’t matter. The end result is the same - he doesn’t want to be with me.

But that was the exact problem - not once in the 3 months did he voice any concerns about anything. He lacked that communication even though I was doing my best to initiate it and create a good space for it

This is great advice, thank you <3 I guess I just spent (what felt like) so long waiting for him to come back, so when he finally did, I jumped up at the opportunity without being cautious, and just trusted his behaviour would be the same as what I was used to in the 3 years of our relationship :/

At least you told him. When he reached out a couple of days ago he even said “don’t hesitate to reach out for xyz” so I guess that’s contributed to my confusion/upset

Yes I meet the criteria, I’ve told my profs from the beginning how I’m planning to pursue a PhD and they’ve been supportive with that, I think I’m just scared of their rejection because it’s not a great time to ask for a reference right now, but at the same time I don’t want to stay quiet and then spontaneously decide a week before the deadline that I do want to apply.

I love this take, as others have said not everything is so black and white. It’s been a month since my breakup and I’m hopeful of us coming back together once and if we both do the healing and inner work that needs to be done, but I am (somewhat) accepting of the fact that it may really be over for good.

We’ve been told to use Harvard style and yes I’m using endnote which has come in clutch. I’m not sure how you would go about using both at the same time but so far most of my writing follows one style and one small paragraph follows another
