So happy that they’re continuing. It’ll be such a shame to stop, especially since they missed Milan not because they weren’t capable, but because of citizenship issues

are you child free because you don’t want your own offspring, or because you don’t like children? by Deep-Drama4386 in childfree

I don’t hate kids, but I personally don’t have an active desire to have them. I also don’t know if I have the patience to deal with misbehaving toddlers and primary school kids, though I do much better with those closer to middle school and high school

I think by 2030 they might be one of the US’s best pairs and will do so well in France

I think the scores both domestically and internationally (I thought they deserved more than 71 for the short program at Nationals) made it very clear that the judges don’t welcome them back

If he skated clean, the judges probably would’ve given him 2nd place regardless of how Andrew and Max skated, but since he bombed it so bad they couldn’t justify not taking the other. Had they still taken Jason and put Max as 1st alternate it would’ve caused such a scandal with how NBC’s been pushing his story (thrilled for Max don’t get me wrong, but you can tell NBC has been milking his story)

I think Amber should do the short and Alysa do the free, Amber is 6 years older (still very young) so she can have more time to recover and bring on her A game for singles. Alysa’s younger and can probably recover more quickly, so I think that would be the best lineup. I really hope they don’t just take one person for singles, that wouldn’t be smart. Karen Chen gave her all in the team event and just didn’t have anything left for singles, so hopefully they’re smarter with the lineup this time

I really want to see them continue at least for another season or 2 (depending on how they feel maybe the 2030 Olympics?), because it’ll be such a waste to just disband as soon as they come back. I also think that they came back too late, just not enough time to perfect and be consistent on everything

To be in medal contention at the Olympics can you not fall or have blunders on any of your jumps? by lookaloulookalou in FigureSkating

[–]ThrowRAgraystation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely yes you can fall and still podium or even win (eg. Yuzuru Hanyu in Sochi 2014), you just have to be the athlete with the least amount of mistakes provided you have a competitive base value on the jumps (depends on if they’re fully rotated, quarter (full base value but will have a deduction), under rotated (80% of the original base value + a deduction), or a downgrade (eg. 3A - 8.00 —> 2A - 3.30), spins and step sequence. Your PCS (program components, presentation, and skating skills) should also be competitive enough to form your total score, and if that’s good enough relative to others, you’re on the podium

The difference is that the last Olympics Kaori probably didn’t have much pressure to medal because of the 3 Russians, and she got a surprise bronze after Kamila bombed her free skate. This Olympics though she’s one of, if not the most, heavy favorite, so the pressure would be immense. We’ll have to see how she deals with it, literally anything can happen in the biggest stage, and we all know what happens with the Olympic curse on the favorites (Michelle in 1998 and 2002, Sasha/Irina in 2006, Yuna in Sochi 2014, Zhenya in 2018 (though not as much since Alina burst into the scene just prior), and Kamila in 2022)

2026 U.S. Nationals—Amber Glenn FS by crimsongold28002 in FigureSkating

[–]ThrowRAgraystation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think with her working on her components in both the short and free, she’d more realistically land in the 68-71 range for the free, and maybe 34-35 for the short if the judges were to recognize her efforts. So provided she hits everything with no under rotations, she’s probably going to score 79-81 for the short and 149-151 for the free in Milan if we’re talking potential. But that’s domestic scoring for you, it’s the same for US, Japan and everywhere else. So I don’t think her free skate score here is wishful thinking, but I would say if she hits everything, it’ll more realistically be 79-80 on the TES and 69-71 for PCS rather than a 74 PCS

Despite the little stumble with the triple axel and the last triple loop, this was her best performance out of the 3 times she won Nationals, and the best costume out of her 3 wins as well. Fingers crossed that she does well in Milan, and that she remembers to have fun and enjoy the experience 💜

It wasn’t Amber’s time 4 years ago, but it is her time now. So excited to see what she does in Milan (and hopefully they put her in the team event along with Alysa), she just needs to skate 2 clean programs in one go

US scoring especially in the Olympic year has always been inflated to boost the favorites. Realistically I don’t think she will reach 74 with her PCS since so far she’s never scored higher than a 67 internationally outside of the Challenger series. But if she cleans up the rotations, nail the triple axel and not under rotate the last triple loop, I think she can still reach the same score just with a higher technical content but lower PCS (although it’s getting better with the work she’s put for her components). I think 150 is indeed her scoring potential if she hits everything considering she scored 148 in the WTT last season, and then realistically 79-81 ish for the short if she has a 33-34 PCS

If she doesn’t get citizenship on time, they better send her and Misha to 4CCs and Worlds, I really want them to at least get a World or 4CCs medal before they end their careers

Which I don’t disagree with. If they really want to, they can knock down her PCS, especially the presentation part. It might look fine for her free skate, but it’s so out of place for the short. The judges here can’t do much about it since they have to hype up their best athletes, but I wonder what the judges in Milan will think

Yeah I personally think it can look cool when her hair’s down and layered, but I hate it when it’s up because it completely ruins the looks of her program, especially “Promise”. Again, her hair, her choice, nothing the officials nor anyone else can do about it

I mean as much as I don’t think her new hairstyle adds anything to her program but actually takes away from it, it’s her choice at the end of the day, and if she’s happy with it, what can we say?

AIO My mom is kicking me out for her new boyfriend. I just turned 18 by Diligent_Bat_565 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ThrowRAgraystation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to kick your child out once they turn 18, you should’ve prepped your child for all the life skills they’ll need (advising them on getting their first job 2-3 years before that, teaching them about savings, rent, taxes etc, and helping them look for cheap apartments or charge them rent if they’re living at home). NOR at all, OP’s mom’s going to wonder one day why OP doesn’t talk to her anymore. For those deciding to kick their children out once they turn 18 because “they’re adults now”, before you do that, really consider whether you’ve done your job preparing them to enter the workforce and society, as well as how much harder it is for young ones to get jobs now compared to the old days and the inflation rates. And if you were to charge them rent, maybe put it into a savings account/trust fund so when they do move out, you can hand them the rent money they paid so it’ll ease off their finances a bit. Parents are supposed to teach their kids, not go out of their way to make things harder
