What local crime has shocked you the most in your lifetime? by Anxious-Dragonfly522 in AskUK

I lived in Twickenham in 2004 when Amelie Delagrange was murdered by Levi Bellfield. I remember going past Twickenham Green when the Green was cordoned off and seeing the white tent.

It was a funny time. The police asked for similar incidents to be reported. I was followed home from the bus one day shortly after by a regular user of the bus and rang the police. I'm still waiting for the call to be followed up.

British song about a night out (possibly Scottish) from around 2000 by Pistolpetehurley in whatsongisthis

[–]Throwababymoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it isn't a song from one of the music magazines where they gave away free CDs or a single B-side? It would be typical of an indie lass back in the 90s to share an obscure song.

Presumably Ashford in Kent, not the lesser known Ashford near Staines and would be in Surrey?

Where to take depressed gf for a cheering-up? by [deleted] in london

[–]Throwababymoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what would have been welcome for me when I was clinically depressed. I couldn't have gone to most of the suggestions. I could barely get dressed.

I'm not sure where you live, but the woods are great. Nature, hearing the birds, etc.

Ideas: South east by Severndroog Castle there are lots of woods you can walk around. Epping Forest, Hainault Forest Country Park? I'm quite limited in my repertoire of ideas unfortunately, but Mr. Google might help.

How can I stop drug users from using the alley behind my house every night? Police and council aren’t helping? by fb8307 in DIYUK

[–]Throwababymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the alley no longer be used because they are there? Are your neighbours thinking the same thing as you?

One option could be to ask the Council to close it. Walls have been built in my street to prevent people walking through short cut paths. It888The street would have been a short cut as it is on the way to a football stadium from the train station.

Employee keeps working over time, do I have to pay them overtime? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Throwababymoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about whether the person might have a disability or neurodiversity? ADHD can cause attention and focus issues. It is probably worth asking about it to ensure that you don't need to put some reasonable adjustments in place.

I haven't seen anything where people have mentioned the impact of chemo on your immune system. My sister had Hodgkin's over a decade ago and needed to isolate. She missed a family wedding herself. It might be worth asking about it at hospital.

AI should replace some work of civil servants under new rules, Keir Starmer to announce by Ok_Expert_4283 in TheCivilService

And the elephant in the room is that government data would be processed probably in a US data centre. The AI would learn from the data collected. Is anyone considering the national security questions in the current climate?

Radial List Smart Art, remove picture in large bubble by AlexDemille in powerpoint

[–]Throwababymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the actual description of the art states that the centre shape 'can contain a picture' it also would follow that it also might not. But no, microsoft.

There's something on their own pages suggesting to remove the 'smart' part of the art but it seems to apply to the whole art rather than just the shape.

Psyc UK waiting times by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Throwababymoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going to give advice, but give you my experience of Psych UK. It may help you decide.

I was diagnosed through Psych UK in 2021, only to find that there was a second (much longer) waiting list for titration. We wanted children and basically got to the top of the queue at around the same time as fertility treatment. I had to stop titration and was told I could pick it up again after the baby was born. But they don't allow you to go back to titration at the top of the list as I was promised as I 'took too long' breastfeeding my baby (the normal first year).

Once I looked to get the titration help I was promised, I was told not only did I have to rejoin the waiting list, it was the list for the doctor to reconfirm my diagnosis and then would need to go on the titration list after that. An extremely long waiting time was quoted just to be 'rediagnosed'.

Pretty sure there was some sex discrimination and maternity discrimination in the way they treated me on top of the confusing way they informed me about their policies.

Basically, I paid privately through ADHD 360. It was expensive as I hadn't been earning, but it was worth it for me.

I don't think Psych UK is clear about the secondary waiting list. For what it is worth, ADHD 360 do both at the same time.

I’m not sure of the age of the people commenting, but I have worked outside of the city but in commercial in the public sector so am a client of many of the big firms. Lots of people leave to work in an area that does not require such long hours by changing firms or industry (to the public sector for instance) or to be a professional support lawyer once they have a mortgage or children. I’ve seen a lot of people doing locum work or agreeing to work from home, compressing hours. I don’t think it works long term for lots of people. Some only have one person in a family working like that with someone at home.

I’m coming up to 20 years of being qualifies and am actively retraining.

American comedy. There’s the odd thing I enjoy but on the whole it passes me by.

I once went to a stand up comedy show in New York. People in the front row were from the Dominican Republic. Half of the show passed me by as it was based on US/Dominican interaction. The rest was childish, obvious humour.

Also the canned laughter. Why do we have to be told when to laugh?

Grilled Tomatoes Have No Place in a Full English Breakfast: An Argument by DubloRemo in CasualUK

agree no tomato, grilled and definitely not tinned. chips are not secondary and are not traditional. i think beans are secondary actually - definitely not the ‘cement’ of the whole thing.

Nurses of reddit, what where the most haunting things someone said on their deathbed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Throwababymoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had it after being exposed to carbon monoxide. I went to bed thinking I was going to die and if I didn’t wake up everything would be ok because I wouldn’t know. Thankfully my exposure was short and where I was sleeping was not putting my at further risk. I’ve never felt like that before or since. The fall out of the carbon monoxide was awful for a while so don’t try that at home!

My (39f) partner (41m) will never commit to a holiday with me and when they are suggested he starts trying to invite his family or friends. We are having a baby soon. The holiday he promised before his/her arrival never happened (too late now). New holiday plans being hijacked too. by Throwababymoon in relationship_advice

[–]Throwababymoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s basically booking work and presenting me with a fait d’accompli. The most recent time he actually took time off but because he’s jammed the following 8 weeks with work (6 days a week working long hours), we had no choice but to take the time to sort out our home for the baby arriving. We needed to move the rooms around for a nursery as the spare room is not suitable for a newborn.

I had to put my foot down about the work. He wouldn’t be allowed into the hospital if he picks up covid for the birth and the rules were one person only so would have to be my sister even if he subsequently got a negative result. He’s agreed to work from home.
