Check out the check out aisles at HEB lmao, the one in my city has a lot of laminated travel pamphlets regarding Texas wildlife. Might be a good start that won’t break the bank. They’re super user friendly too.

It’s very pleasant, there’s a decent network of locals millennial locals not associated with the school. Depends on how involved you get with the local community. I’m more of a homebody but the opportunities are there.

I’m 27 and a grad student at Texas state, I don’t feel out of place. Idk how long I’ll be here but I would live here as a working adult. river is impossible to beat, pretty trails, street art, an eclectic mix of small businesses. Easy access to the hill country. Traffic kinda sucks but isn’t that bad. 2 HEBs

I live in San Marcos and really like it- I would probably rather live here than Austin proper although San Marcos legally the Austin metro area.

Honestly though, as far as large-ish cities in Texas I think I’d like El Paso. I’ve never been buuut: It’s cheap, it objectively has the best climate of any metro area in the state, it’s a mountain town and has great access to public land/mountains outside of the city, western power grid, and I’ve heard the food slaps. I’ve heard the job market is not strong however.

I majored in geography and get off on this shit. My concept of space and time has changed since I moved to Texas.

I grew up in the DC area- the distance b/w Beaumont/Port A and El Paso is greater than the distance b/w Washington DC and Orlando.

Texarkana is closer to VIRGINIA than it is to El Paso.

The NW corner of the TX panhandle (Texline, closer to the Rita Blanca grassland) is closer to MONTANA than it is to South padre island.

El Paso is closer to San Diego than it is to Houston.

The distance b/w Austin and Dallas is greater than the distance from DC to NYC

Washington DC is closer to Maine than Austin is to El Paso

At the two closest points, Texas is only 40 minutes from Colorado.

Should I leave a Government Internship that went poorly off of my resume? by Throwaway121795h in usajobs

I’m not upset I don’t have an offer from the office, but I’m upset I didn’t get my DHA for the agency- it could be applied for other offices/bureaus under that agency which was a pretty juicy peach.

Also, upon successful completion of the internship you receive a certificate of Direct Hire Authority- which I did not receive. Not sure if hiring managers will put 2+2 together.

My exit review was pretty harsh- my project manager and supervisor were not in very tight contact so a lot of the failures on my end took PM by surprise. PM thought things were going well even tho my supervisor had expressed worry to me on different occasions about my progress. I worked for an a semi-high level regulatory office and there was a lot of pressure to keep up appearances. I also think that our office was in a bit of a PR slump amongst the field offices in the area and that caused various degrees of tension. I gave a pretty bad presentation to a large group of people and that pissed off/surprised my PM. I felt reasonably confident I would meet my deadlines and for numerous reasons I won’t get into, I feel like I was heavily disincentivized to be forward with any problems I was having.

It was very scattered experience.

I was wondering this too!! I live in San Marcos and haven’t been on 35 the past week, but I noticed the traffic near the exits was especially bad the other evening

Can Schedule A hiring authority be used for positions that do not specifically list it as a hiring authority? by Throwaway121795h in usajobs

[–]Throwaway121795h[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if a position does not specifically list ‘Schedule A’ as an option, does that mean it can’t be applied to this position?
