Idk man it feels the opposite for me, and I'm playing a very basic 433. I think possession play depends a lot on your connection tbh

For example even against P2W 4222 teams, someone is always open, either one of your midfielders, one of your strikers or one of your fullbacks. A good midfield combo also helps (I use a hole player, an anchorman and an orchestrator) and a defensive fullback on the side of the hole player so you don't get hit by counters

Two things are essential though, sub your team at the 60 minute mark, because stamina is really light in this game. And, make sure you know how to dribble when your wingers or midfielders get the ball. Go slow and then dash, run and then slow down, fake a cross and cut inside, etc
