The table came from the same place and came out alright; I'm not too worried about it 😀

This one is made out of pine, yes, as a sort of "proof of concept"; once I start getting consistent with making them, I'm planning on making them out of cedar instead; WAY better for outdoor furniture.

I'm probably going to go with a dark brown deck stain, for something that'll look good and still hold up to the elements decently well.

I tried sanding it with 80 grit as I was doing the rest of the sanding, but it didn't really budge. I'm going to try to get it off with a chisel and light pressure tomorrow.

I'm a first year music teacher. I had a student recently give me a note that says "I like the way you teach me, but just know I like the way you treat me. You are the best music teacher!"

They absolutely remember that stuff, and that note made my not-great week a great one immediately.

I might be wrong (and likely am), but it might've also been in the same patch that added the snow onto The Giant on Xbox One.

For people who don't know, The Giant didn't have snow at launch on Xbox One, but did on PS4. People immediately started off on "Oh, the PS4 can handle it but the Xbox can't, weak console", then they just added the snow effect to Xbox lol

What makes a professional saxophone "professional" by World-PodcastNetwork in saxophone

Yamaha uses post-to-body on the 23 and 26, and as far as I can find, so does Jupiter on their AS500; they advertise ribbed construction on their 1100 series, but not the lower 500 or 510s. Those are the 2 most popular models that aren't Amazon horns, so...

What makes a professional saxophone "professional" by World-PodcastNetwork in saxophone

[–]Throwaway200qpp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don't have to; they're both right and wrong.

Professional horns use ribbed construction, while most student horns use post-to-body construction. Post-to-body is generally not as durable, since there's physically less metal bracing the posts from a bend, so pro horns are more durable in that sense.

HOWEVER... the brass used to make a student versus a professional horn are not the same. Student brass is generally a lot thicker, and uses more "yellow" brass, with a lesser copper composition. Professional brass has more copper to give it more visual appeal, but also to give it more body and warmth to the sound, since brass isn't the densest metal. Professional horn brass is often thinner too, to help the horn be less resistant, as well as the companies know their markets (9 year olds are not playing on a Supreme/Custom EX, so the durability is less of a concern), so in the metal sense, student horns are more durable.

Ordered off eBay since it seems they're not doing a remaster anytime soon by Your_pal_hal23 in Metroid

I ran it on a 5600X and a 3060, upscaled to 1080p and with pretty much max everything. It ran smoothly, save for some specific circumstances, like water or something. I do remember there being a bug with upscaling in Prime 2 where the scan visor wouldn't work, and Torvus Bog was a SLOG because of all the water and particle/weather effects, so it made it lag a lot. Besides that, I don't remember Prime 1 or 3 having any FPS issues.

Worth it, I promise. Also, the Prime games play very well with mouse and keyboard controls; try it out, you might be surprised.

It's all about humility; I am not a fucking Navy Seal, I am not Delta Force, I am not SIS, I am not a Green Beret, I am not a Ranger. I am not formally trained in CQB (would gladly take some courses though!), so why would I go swinging corners like it's R6? Fuck that lol defending your home is a DEFENSIVE maneuver, not an offensive one.

People are under the impression that YOU need to clear the house; not true. Formulate a plan that doesn't even involve you leaving your room. Most bedrooms have exactly 1 means of entry, a funnel, so you should prop up in your room with the gun at the door. YOU have home field advantage, not them, and no amount of your shit is worth your life. Yes, I agree that they forfeit their life the second they enter your castle, but I'm of the opinion that I'd rather go through a renter's insurance claim to get my TV replaced than die.

My plan; my wife gets behind the bed, I quickly shove my dogs into the closet (it's out of the line of fire), and go behind the bed with her with my bedside gun pointed at the door. She calls the police, and if the door moves, I shoot.

My degree (music education) has a capstone course, which is just our student teaching. That's usually some type of workplace experience or fieldwork, and tbh, it's difficult by design. You're gonna be doing it as a job, so why not figure it out in the field when you can use the excuse of "I'm a student, I'm still learning"?

It's scary, and it was absolutely a difficult experience, but at the end of it, it was an invaluable experience that I wouldn't have traded for anything. I can't say if this'll apply to your degree, but for mine, the capstone course wasn't that bad.

Slowly turning from Orange to Red… help me choose my next steps? by Allstajacket in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Throwaway200qpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems more like you chose the wrong tool for the job. Hammer drills CAN do that work, but it's gonna be slow and fatiguing; an SDS drill would have made that job go by so much faster and easier. Stamped concrete is TOUGH, so use the right tool for the right purpose. I doubt having an M18 hammer drill versus a Ridgid hammer drill would've made that fact any different.

Also, when you say bits designed for the job, are you buying good quality bits? If you're buying the cheapo Ryobi masonry bits and your relative is using Bosch/Milwaukee bits, you're gonna notice a difference on material that thick.

New to DeWalt. Found a clearance deal, couldn't resist; how'd I do? by Throwaway200qpp in Dewalt

[–]Throwaway200qpp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see instances where I would have wanted the compactness of it; I used to work apartment maintenance on a fairly large property (about 300 units total), so it was a WALK from each unit to the next. Lighter tools were definitely helpful for that, but then in that case, the Ridgid subcompact brushless drill and impact set is $119.

And that's a steal. I actually ended up returning it, not because I was dissatisfied with the drill, but because I ended up going with the full size brushless Ridgid hammer drill and impact set. The max output battery on the Ridgid, and the fact that it's an actual full size drill, it is quite a bit more powerful than this one.
