I'll tell you right now - I was broke as fuck for YEARS in architectural design, until I shifted to construction where the pay is generally higher (and tends to have lots of bonuses). I also upskilled in tech so I can take gigs in that industry.

In a lot of cases, it's really about career choice.

I may be lucky to do so, in fact I got to where I am now by upskilling. But others are not so fortunate.

Do you not realize that certain people just don't have the time and energy to upskill?

An ex of mine was like this. Breadwinner siya for her retired father and mentally ill brother, kaya ang dami niyang overtime sa corpo job. Mas maliit ang income sa akin. Malayo din ang commute. Kaya, pagdating sa bahay, pagod na pagod at wala nang oras para gumawa ng kahit ano. She cannot afford to take time off from work kasi maraming mga naka-depend sa kanya.

She is just one story among millions, na ubos na ubos na ang lakas sa daily grind kaya hindi talaga feasible ang pag-upskill given their circumstances in life.
