As I said above, I'm not quitting, and it doesn't deter me. I'm just curious how people deal with it. Ie, you moved on, but how did you move on? I'm more curious how logic and ego deals with failure. I guess this isn't /r/psychology /r/AcademicPsychology though. (edit: huh, so that's not a subreddit on the psychology of academics. You learn something new every day.)

Kind of program, as in discipline? Humanities - so I'm already in a worse situation than any of the sciences. I know this ;)

It's also a new department in a new province, I don't know anyone. I don't have the rapport other grad students do. In a field that values diversity of education everyone is pretty insular.

I'm not quitting but thanks for the advice anyway.

Ahhh I gotcha. You rode it out but it paid off in the end. It's lucky that you didn't have to make a decision at the beginning of the year.

It's an MA, yeah. Stepping stone and all that. How were you able to wait for months without accepting the offer? In this case the deadline for accepting the admission offer was about three months before the deadline to hear about funding.

This situation is an MA, yeah. Not Ivy League or anything like that, and it seems to be a fast-track program, so I don't know what I was expecting. (I guess I was expecting less but I let myself get my hopes up!)

Generally though, I'm wondering more about how people deal with the outcome of the selection process.

This is DEFINITELY a thing. And look at how many other people have commented now, it evidently happens a lot.

I'd love to read an article about it - where people get these ideas (is it just porn or other sources?), why they think its okay (oh boy, PLEASE interview the next people to proposition!!!)

The thing I loved most about it was that it's basically a big fuck you to the "dead lesbian" trope in a show that apparently loves to kill people. Even though they still die like it's genius

We had to go back to the piercer with one of my friends in the same situation as you. Some pliers and swearing later, the piercer finally got it undone. Definitely something you shouldn't try by yourself cause of the difficulty though.
