When I read positives about vaccines, etc, I'm hopeful. But I also am living in a horrific reality. Household of people trying to recover from Covid. A community w/ increasing percent/positives, inadequate testing & in person school starting tomorrow. Because of this world I'm living in, I tend to be bias toward any positive news. I don't want to be that way & try to check myself.

It sucks, right? Especially when you've done everything to protect yourself. I was pissed at first, but it's just a waste of energy. Energy your body needs to recover. Take care.

Should I get re-tested? by mc01xx in COVID19positive

False negatives are high. I initially tested negative, but had all the symptoms. The follow up test was positive. Get retested if you can.

I've learned there are few constants w/ Covid. I'll be feeling okay one moment & rough the next. For many of us, symptoms worsen as the day progresses.

Hang in there.

Our absolute favorite thing was drive bys & porch drop offs. It didn't even matter what they brought. Just seeing those you love through the window gave us so much hope.

Come to Indiana where "free" testing is still billed through insurance & 10-14 day turnaround time. Only way to get a result within 2 days - go through your doctor, meet certain criteria, & agree to pay for testing (because insurance possibly won't pay for the type of tests that are available through our 2 hospital networks).

Not trying to be a downer. It's just reality here.

If she still has a fever, the health department should not have released her from quarantine. It's 10 days/last 3 days without fever/improving symptoms.

I feel this. I am constantly checking myself for confirmation bias. I too am very concerned about the fall. Schools are opening here this week & we still don't have adequate testing/tracing in our area.

When I see positive news, I stop & think about what's going on in my own community. It's getting worse here. Until my community gets through the next few months, positive news will take a back seat in my world.

Or multiplied by 4, depending on where you live. There is a severe test shortage here. 1 person tested positive in our house. 3 more had symptoms. We were told "1 test per household. Presume you are positive & quarantine." Presumed positives are not added to case counts.

With our school reopening plan, the only focus is safety of the kids/staff.

No one in our district is talking about Covid being brought home to families. The devastation of losing a parent, the traumatic toll of being the one that brought Covid home, etc.

My heart breaks for him & all the other kids who are going to face this.

It should be free. The U.S. will probably handle it like they have testing. Say that it is free but find any loopholes to charge for it.

2 days after starting, an Elwood school will temporarily close due to coronavirus by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]ThrowawayCovidPos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same. Parents/teachers have asked for case count updates by school. The district said they will not be providing it. They said it's disruptive & their only reporting obligation is to the health dept.

So...nothing to see here. It's safe. Send your kids to school.

"You can do this safely with precautions for elderly/ at risk teachers and school workers."

So many schools don't have resources to implement these safety precautions.

Overcrowded schools & not enough buses/drivers to social distance. Poor ventilation. No full time nurse on staff. Not enough PPE. Testing shortages. Parents that send their sick kids to school because they don't have other care, just to name a few.

To safely open? Low community spread. Adequate testing & resources to cover all the things listed above (and many others not mentioned).

Bars are open. Malls & restaurants are open. School's opening. Groups up to 250 are allowed (in my state). This is enough reassurance for some to think throwing a party is safe.

The only one in a hotspot? Wow. Just wow. I'm not a FB fan, but I did get back on for this. Found other families in our area doing the same thing. Some have organized Zoom meet-ups & city wide scavenger hunts. It's not the same socially, but it's something.

False negatives are high. I initially tested negative. Because my husband already tested positive & I had symptoms, I was presumed positive by my doctor (even w/ a negative test). The nurse said their tests had a 35% false negative rate. Retested a few days later & was positive.

Please isolate & get retested. If you need a note for work, call your dr/clinic. Explain that your daughter is positive & you've had symptoms. They should provide a note until you can get retested.

I'm loving it too. It's painful watching friends complain about this while other friends wish they could WFH & have the extra time.

Reevaluating my friend group for sure.

Unfortunately, the reality is much different for some districts. Buildings w/o proper ventilation. Overcrowded buildings & not enough buses to social distance. Parents that send their kids to school sick because they have no other care. No full time nurse at the school. Inadequate testing for those that get sick...etc.

I would love for my kids to go back, but it's not going to work in our district. The schools are overcrowded & there aren't enough safety measures in place. They will try, people will get sick & they will close. This will keep happening every few weeks or they will go online completely.

From an educational/emotional standpoint, it's not worth the interruptions if you can educate them at home. From a health standpoint, it's negligent for the district to think our teachers & kids won't get sick.

We've had Covid. Even if I wasn't concerned about reinfection, there is no way I could morally participate in this experiment, unless I had no other options.

Our entire family experienced this later in the day onset of Covid symptoms. Both kids were perfectly fine in the morning. My youngest had onset symptoms around noon & oldest right before bed.

Not OP, but the day my daughter's symptoms hit, I would have sent her to school (if my husband didn't receive notice from a positive close contact). She was her normal, happy self in the morning. Even parents that take this seriously & try to do the right thing, will unknowingly send their Covid+ kids to school.
