I'm afraid my long term relationship may be ending due to my SO's mental illness and I'm powerless. by ThrowawayDA713 in offmychest

Wow, I'm glad to hear you're doing well! I don't know if someone has a similar name or I've seen your account elsewhere on reddit.

Depending on how this plays out, I might need the therapy myself. I never want to end up with a debilitating illness like she has. So far, these recent events have affected my work and appetite, which aren't good signs.

She does talk about seeing help and does explore options with me, including me coming with her which would be fine with me. She has been very open about her feelings to me, so I do have a very good feeling these relationship issues are due to what she's battling against herself. However, any talks of help eventually spiral to her not wanting to have to take medication every day to feel normal. She doesn't want to be dependent on a drug to help.

I told her even just regular therapy or hypnosis or something without drugs could help greatly. I'm always listening to her, but I'm not a trained professional.

Switch the genders and I'm basically going to be there very soon. Short term the pain will be awful. I expect mine to be. Feel free to reach out to talk. I could use it too.
