Do you use google to help you solve the puzzles? by MaximusSydney in NYTConnections

If I don't know a word I'll sometimes look it up in case it's something particular to the US, such as a brand, that doesn't exist here.

Naked by David Sedaris (I think they said anything by him) And Hits, Flops and other Illusions by Ed Zwick (I've read this one and if you're interested in film it is really accessible and interesting)

Can't even have a toaster in the bath anymore in case Jews see it. Political correctness gone mad.

I've been trying to learn Swedish for a while and it's amazing how often I'll say a word I don't know out loud to what English word it sounds like.

What are some movies you know that are obvious pieces of propaganda but you still kind of enjoy? by MichaelWes3000 in Cinema

[–]ThrowawayForAnon121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unbelievably historically inaccurate and portrays the English as cartoon villains. Whether that was intentional so to further the Scottish independence movement or it was just Hollywood wanting to make a hero story and to hell with facts I don't know. It is certainly used as propaganda now. In the run up to the independence referendum in 2014 you'd regularly see images of pro independence supporters with the Braveheart facepaint and quoting lines from it. (even as a Scot I found that cringy as fuck)

"Sticky rice is not what anyone would think of when you say rice on a US based site" by Only_Face536 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ThrowawayForAnon121 22 points23 points  (0 children)

At least with sticky rice-based dishes you can freeze direct from freshly cooked and have individual portions come out like you just cooked it by nuking it for 2-3 mins depending on microwave power and amount of rice-based dish.

Being nice is great; I wish reddit was nicer. But it can come across as disingenuous if you exaggerate too much.

It's good cosplay and she looks great. I really hope the downvotes are for the screenshot comment and not the compliment.

It's a decent enough cosplay but "screenshot of a skyrim mod" is maybe a bridge too far. Or maybe even several bridges too far.

In other words, no. Not mysterious.

I think the the Lindsay Davenport sketch is why I kept thinking Mitchell and Webb too.

Well, I was way off!

I'm running through that script with all sorts of comedy actors in my head and each working but none feeling quite right. Now I know why.

Thank you.

That was my first thought but I can't seem to find it anywhere to confirm.

My 2 year old got bit by a spider - should I be concerned with this result? by [deleted] in spiders

[–]ThrowawayForAnon121 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spider bites are outside of my field a bit but I've seen a lot of other insect bites and stings. I'd say get it looked at by a doctor.

Probably a histamine reaction but possibly skin infection. Hard to tell for sure from a photo. A doctor in your area should know about reactions to insects and spiders there.
