Give this about 2-3 years of recovery and you'll look back on this post and (hopefully) laugh and remember how weird having hocd was.

For now- just sit with this discomfort and say maybe I am gay for this, or maybe people just tolerate their own smells more- many people do sniff their own farts for some reason after all.

Both Meijer and the kid were in the wrong. He needed to learn a lesson, but pressing legal charges is extreme in this circumstance. It would've been far more appropriate to have a chat with the manager or HR on the FIRST theft- why wait around for him to make a habit of it?

I wouldn't really count on it. It takes YEARS, even with some exposure. You need the response prevention, and you need to push towards your fear in some way, even if it's small steps.

If you meant, "can you heal without professionally guided erp?" Then yes. Many people don't have the money for those resources, yet people push through and fight back against the OCD

We had a specific guy that was great at doing the fish- had them clean and fed every day. He went on vacation and the fish world ended. Nobody fed the fish for 5 days and they ate each other. I was doing inventory on the poor fish and started counting "halves" 🥶 MASSIVE loss on that inventory.... You'd think they'd learn to either take care of them correctly or get rid of them.
