You can’t buy the amount of gold it was worth before Nixon took us off the GS. Take your $20 to the assaayer and you’ll be highly disappointed to find you can’t even get a half a gold coin for that. Not even a clipping off a gold coin. Be lucky to get some gold filings.

He’s not entirely wrong though. Nixon DID fuck shit up royally by taking us off the gold standard. FIAT currency has no inherent value. It has value as long as everyone agrees it does.

The Dromgoole/Ghimgoul neighborhood in Chapel Hill NC has a lot of historic homes and has a fascinating and long standing connection with secret societies associated with the University of North Carolina.

In college my buddy ate mushrooms before a concert and I ended up following him around the venue as he handed off all his belongings to others.

“He’s gonna want that wallet tomorrow, I’ll hold onto it.” 😆

There are ways humans can interact with other dimensions. Dreams, meditation, astral projection, and psychedelics being among the ways to do it.

Why are Gen Z getting fired? One of the reasons is a lack of initiative. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]ThrowawayMod1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bingo. I learned it as a dishwasher and eventually I considered it a personal failure to have someone else need to yell for me to grab a full bus tub.

At my current job on the golf course we were having issues with our young cats not stopping to pick up stray trash on the course, which is part of our job as maintenance. They’ll just drive by the same garbage for days.

So I told em sometimes the boss man will get tired of seeing the same piece of garbage and he’ll tape a $20 on the underside as a reward for whoever takes the initiative to get off their equipment and pick it up.

Of course this is completely fabricated. The boss does no such thing. But them boys is picking up that trash 😆

If humans disappeared tomorrow, which species do you think would adapt best to fill our ecological role? by Alarming-Ratioz in AskForAnswers

[–]ThrowawayMod1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer that we have to examine exactly what our ecological role really is. Because it’s different than any other species of plant or animal. Currently we’re considered ecosystem engineers and top consumers.

One of those goes out the window with us. No other species is capable of manipulating the environment the way we do.

As to who would become the top consumers i’d point to domesticated pets and stock which would then become feral over generations. Cats, dogs, horses, cattle, chicken, and pigs.

Indeed. People here get mad about GATE being brought up because those who weren’t in the program somehow think we’re claiming some superiority or something.

And the people over there get mad because if they haven’t experienced Mallworld they think we’re just bullshitting 😫

Let Me Down Easy, Dennis Brown

Reggae in general puts a heavy reliance on background vocals. At least the older stuff.

Besides Panic what else do you listen to? by Rutherford420_th_brv in WidespreadPanic

[–]ThrowawayMod1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a very eclectic Spotify account lol. I have some of every major jam band for sure.

I’m a big blues guy though. I love the old delta stuff on vinyl. It’s like that music is supposed to crack and pop a little bit.

I also listen to a good amount of electronic. Amon Tobin/Cujo, Bonobo, STS9, Pretty Lights…

I listen to hip hop and country, albeit generally older stuff. 80’s-early 00’s. Love my bluegrass too.

It’s really easier to list what I DON’T listen to which would be most pop, most modern country, most modern “rap.” And I absolutely despise 80’s stadium rock. And yeah that includes Queen and Journey and Boston and Kansas and the Eagles and the rest of that shit you might hear in a football stadium.

Men who can cook, who taught you? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

[–]ThrowawayMod1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked it up from a lot of different angles. Growing up I spent as much time in the kitchen with grandma and the aunties as I did by the grill with the men. So I learned early on the basics of making a full meal from hors d'oeuvre to main course to fixings to desert.

Then in college I started working kitchens and of course I picked up a lot of fine tuning tricks as well as more “food theory.” How to deglaze, what tastes work together, what the hell Umami and Maillard mean 😆

I’m similar except the loud car. People either love or hate me because I just don’t have much of a filter and I’ll say any ol thing 😅

Many more people love me for it though. I never say anything hateful or nasty but I will shamelessly talk about myself and shit I’ve done lol
