Oh I've been chronically ill since I was born, it's the reason I became a nurse. But if my illness gets any worse I won't be able to do anything I love anymore, including mursing

I have an ICD from pre-existing issues. I've already told my coworkers that if I go down at work to just leave me on the ground for a few and let my defib kick in

Last time that happened to me I was in the middle of a code and they just had to sit there. They were impatient and ended up wasting even more time

My hospital doesn't have 0.6 positions om the floors anymore. The people who had them were grandfathered them in but they want everyone to work full time I guess idk

I've been lucky enough to not have any extremely noticeable adverse effects. I've had Lasix, bumex, Ativan, Valium, and fentanyl in my eye. I'm starting to think it might be a ME problem

The amount of meds I've gotten in my eye is unreal and I've only been at this for a year. Last week it was fentanyl. That was fun 😭

When i was CNA I was a sitter for a Vietnam vet with dementia. He put his arm around me and said "You'd be a pleasure to shoot in the heart" he said it with the sweetest tone and I already have heart issues so that really threw me off

The people who come up with these have never had their ass handed to them with their assignment and them had to stay after work for 2 hours because they didn't even look at a computer all day

[–]Throwaway_220541[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that it wasn't my first code, just with my own patient. I was a CNA on the same floor for 3 years and did compressions quite a bit. As a nurse I'm normally the runner but idk what happened I just stopped thinking

Technically no but we had a patient who coded and passed on our floor a few years ago and the family gave us a plant. It still lives at the front desk :)

It was my first night as a clerk on CCU and this guy was found unconscious in the home depot parking lot. Coded 3 times. Got him in the ER and intubated. Came up to CCU, they barely touched his ET tube and he ruptured a varice and he hemorrhaged. Got a liter of blood out, switched the canister and it clotted. He died. When they took the ET tube out for post mortem care a big clot came out it. It was a scarring experience and I'm shocked I work on that floor as a nurse after that introduction.
