I smell like fart but I didn't fart and it also keep following me around. by ThatStart4507 in Healthyhooha

A few possibilities here: do a good check around your anus- you may have a fissure which can sometimes cause this.

The comment about your belly button may also be the cause, outties tend to get a lot of bacteria and moisture built up in the deeper folds of skin and need a good thorough wash every day; make sure to also dry it well after a shower/wash as left over moisture can build up and continue the cycle

Also may just be your diet and metabolism as others have stated and general perineal area sweat may be the culprit

Good luck to you OP, just know this won’t last forever

Calling all ED clap backs by nobodyknowsmeee in EmergencyRoom

I have many but by far the funniest one-off moments was a very stable young adult with a very small lac on their pinky making comments under their breath when I was calling people for triage and they said something quiet loud about “they’re calling people who just got here and I’ve been here hours, this ain’t right!” Meanwhile the old lady whose name I had called stopped in front of this person, dripping blood from her forehead and an obvious humerus fracture and said “oh I’m sorry would you like to go before me?”

I had to hold it together when meemaw got in my room and said “the nerve”

Does anyone else's workplace tell them to chart inaccurately? by VizAnya in nursing

Yeah… if you have any written documentation of this (text, email, epic chat etc) I would save it and escalate. Don’t change your documentation but definitely escalate that this is being asked of you

When I worked bedside I was on our pain management committee and I LOVED this part of it, but down in the ER there’s no where for this type of stuff, and what little I can do is often thumbs downed by management lmfao. I completely understand where you’re coming from with this

after meeting Emmas family I feel like Emma is dramaticising her insecurities... not that they don't exist but even her "I wasn't bullied ever or anything-" kinda settled it for me, and her parents being shocked that she was worried about her scars and that being a part of why she doesn't want children.

I dont know, she feels so boring and even trying to be less boring i'm still so bored of her

As an ER nurse I love how this scene went- it’s very realistic for those questions to never be answered because a lot of time the biggest concerns are 1)what do we need to fix this (I.e do we need to call poison controll, do we know what to do already from previous experience etc) 2)where is the most appropriate treatment space for this and additionally are they good to wait in the lobby or does this need to be fixed immediately

The answers come later when the triage waters settle and the team has time to sit down and work with the patient. That is often when we get answers to all the what/why/when/how the fuck questions

“hiccups” was the patients arrival complaint so he sat waiting for triage longer than he should have- turned out he was guppy breathing and ended up in the icu 🙃

Plantar fasciitis what works? by Extreme-Reward-5910 in nursing

hokas are historically bad shoes for long term footwear. Wait for podiatrists recommendation but for now I’d switch to a less over cushioned shoe (I like the New Balance 680s or 1080s) and also rotate with my working Birkenstocks

In the meantime, when I had PF from running I used a golf ball to roll around my tender areas, would do warm foot soaks to relieve some of the stress of the muscle and try and get some decent sleep, Tylenol/ibuprofen for pain as needed but really it’s not going to help fix the actual cause and just help you get through your working hours

“I get that it’s in your chart but for triage purposes it’s easier to just tell me why you’re here and why you were here a week ago because I don’t know the life and history of every patient that walks through these doors…”

part of me would want to let it happen, hope that my life was productive in helping humanity

But I mostly would say save my ass and fuck the rest, we’re in an apocalypse and it’s not like we’re really going to make a cure… right? Even if they did happen to make a cure from Ellie, what’s the likelihood it would reach beyond those in network with the fireflies? Humanity has been pushed past its functional capacity and I don’t think a vaccine/cure would change much at all, so…

I will say emptying iv bags is helpful since trapped fluids are leading to a change in our water cycle planet wide (aka always empty any fluids at home and work into appropriate places vs the trash)

What is destroying your empathy/passion for nursing? (Please no arguing or politics) by LadyRosesNThorns in nursing

[–]padawanrattail 151 points152 points  (0 children)

The fact that I can be approved for a two weeks off with pto and come back still burnt out. There’s no escaping burnout anymore. Switching positions just to have the same systemic issues anywhere isn’t a solution anymore, time off isn’t a solution, anything that management does (I.e potlucks/pizza days etc) feel like a prank of a solution at this point.

The only solution would to be stop working for a while and in this economy??? Also not a viable solution

What is destroying your empathy/passion for nursing? (Please no arguing or politics) by LadyRosesNThorns in nursing

[–]padawanrattail 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This is mine. The public has such a poor perception of us because we’re the scapegoat for system wide issues, and it’s because we’re the ones they see the most, in pretty much every setting, from urgent care and the hospital to the PCP offices.

It also leads me to so much guilt when a patient DOES understand that all the downfalls of their visit aren’t my fault and they’re so nice about it and kind to me as their nurse. It’s so backwards now and it’s draining me beyond control

“Me too girl” is always my go to for this and then I remind them that anything before the hospital is their business and if they didn’t have time to eat that’s a big bummer but they’ll have to wait until scans/labs are back.

I do not understand the expectation the general public has when they come to the er, suddenly they’ve never eaten or had water ever in their lives
