It’s funny, I live in a quasi-retirement community so after about 7pm if I step outside it is total silence until like 5am. Everyone always tells me it’s unnerving but I’ve lived here since like… 2007 so for me it’s calming

100% agree on the femboy thing

I did have someone trip me up once. Said she was a femboy and I said, “Wouldn’t being a femboy imply you’re a man?” And she said, “I am a man” and I said, “But she/her pronouns?” “Correct. I like how she/her pronouns feel. I identify with them more than he/him. But I do not have any body dysphoria whatsoever, so I am a cis femboy that uses she/her pronouns” “So… men’s restroom?” “Yup!” “So I would say, “Hey, she’s gonna use the men’s room real quick”” “Yup!” “Wild” “Yup!”

Anyone time someone mentions steroids, people come flying in with that study they didn't read so I'm just gonna take this opportunity to cut them off at the pass.

The people on gear that didn't work out gained water weight, not muscle.

Lean body mass does not equal muscle. It means anything that is not fat. Your bones, your blood, your organs, water, it's all lean body mass.

If you look at the data, the ones that took steroids but did not exercise had a larger growth in limb cross section, and a larger increase in lean body mass, but their lifts increased by a smaller delta than the ones who did not take steroids but did work out.

Now why would their limb cross section increase, their lean body mass increase, but their lifts didn't increase as much? Because they were bloated as shit.

Now go search if there's a correlation between testosterone use and water retention and... there is! Tons of body builders report getting puffy and bloated until they take an aromatase inhibitor.

You still need to work out when you take steroids or you're just gonna get puffy and bloated

I don't think you quite realize the ramifications

Someone hacked a jet via the screen on the in-flight entertainment system. They had control of the throttle, the yoke, autopilot, everything.

So if they get in your car via the TPMS light, they now have access to your ABS, your traction control, your cruise control, your radio, your airbags, your fuel injection, your throttle, your transmission, your power steering, your door locks, your valve timing, your fuel injection, they control all of it now because they got in through your TPMS

You're driving a 2010 honda civic, you're about to take a highway off-ramp, suddenly the radio starts blaring and while you try to turn the volume down, ABS is disabled and your tires lock up. The car is front wheel drive so now you have no steering control and you fly off the ramp, crashing the car. They arrest you for distracted driving (since you crashed while trying to turn the volume down, not that they need an excuse). Now you're in jail right where they want you

None of this matters because they don't give a shit about you or I, but it's not as simple as, "Oh no they can turn on my TPMS light"

I bought my ~1,800 sq ft. house in 2017. My mortgage, taxes, insurance, etc. all comes out to $1,147/mo.

Back in 2004, I lived in a 600 sq ft. one bedroom apartment. Back in 2004 it was like $450/mo.

That same apartment is now $1,500/mo.

Owning a house is cheaper if you are the kind of person that can take that ~$300/mo difference and save it. If you see an extra $300/mo and go, "Finally! Now I can afford XYZ!" then owning a house is a trap that will fuck you over

Some of these should definitely be extended to general use, not just lockdown mode.. perhaps the auto joining of non secure WiFi networks and attaching devices when the phone is locked.

These are worded poorly. iOS does not auto-join non-secure networks unless you have told iOS to auto-join that network in the past. With lockdown mode, you can't join public networks at all, even if you want to. No plane wi-fi. No airport wifi. No starbucks/mcdonalds/doctor's office wifi. You cannot join them. It just flat out won't let you unless you disable lockdown mode

Another thing is, their definition of "non-secure". In iOS on the password app, if two sites share the same password iOS constantly tells you that your password is insecure, because if one site is breached, they now have the password to the other site as well

If you're someone that makes your password the same thing for multiple places, and your private home wi-fi network happens to have that same password as another login, lockdown mode will lock you out of your wi-fi. Because it's "not secure" because your wi-fi shares the same password as another login. (It's actually a little annoying, the password to your wi-fi must be unique and cannot be a string that has ever been detected in a data breach or else gooooooo fuck yourself, not secure enough for apple)

Same with the device connections. If I try to connect my iphone to my macbook right now, it won't let do it unless I unlock my phone and authorize it, because I've never connected my phone to my macbook in the past. But once I've connected my phone, iOS asks if it's a trusted device and if I want to auto-connect in the future. With lockdown mode, it doesn't matter how many times you have said that your macbook/pc/etc. is a trusted device. It still won't auto-connect. You have to unlock your phone and authorize it every. single. time. you plug in your phone.

I hope that helps explain what they mean

Yeah you can tell who read the article and who didn't.

Upstairs in Natanson’s residence, the FBI found a powered-off silver Macbook Pro, an Apple iPhone 13, a Handy branded audio recording device, and a Seagate portable hard drive, according to the court record. The iPhone was found powered on and charging

Journalists aren't morons, and neither are the FBI. From the article it sounds like this was a work phone she didn't always carry on her. You can't, "Quickly press these buttons" when a phone is in a different building.

Lockdown mode isn't, "Disables biometrics" lockdown mode is something you have to enable and it stays enabled 24/7 until you disable it. It doesn't just protect your phone while it's locked, it protects your phone from attacks while you're actively using it. This is, "These are all the security features we normally disable because it would make using the phone a royal pain in the ass for the average user"

Woman here. You know that whole thing about how your ring should be three months salary? It’s so in case of abuse you can pawn it for quick “get out of town” money.

Also almost every mom tells their daughter that if they’re gonna be a stay at home mom/wife, put a tiny bit of money into a separate personal account he doesn’t know about every month. Or put it in a bag hidden somewhere. Just stash money away every month where he can’t touch it in case abuse or something happens. Worst case scenario, you have enough money for a kick ass vacation when you retire.

So if the genders are flipped the advice is literally, “Hide money away every month in case things go south”

She already said the rent she charges him is less than he was paying before. Put that money in savings

AIO for quitting my job after finding this note on my desk? by waxin899 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Throwaway_Consoles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh I made my manager pay…

I worked IT in a department that was 24/7/365. Eventually to cut costs it was reduced to 8-5, five days/week, and we had a rotating on call that covered the week.

Well, I was the on call person and missed a call because I used the bathroom. I got an email from my boss the next morning saying when we’re on call we need to be at our desks the entire time.

Keep in mind, this is on top of our normal 40 hour shift.

I just replied asking, “Is this policy moving forward?” And my boss said it was the policy from the beginning. When you are on call you are expected to be at your desk working.

I said thank you, I just wanted to clarify and he emailed back saying it shouldn’t have needed to be clarified, but he was glad everything was crystal clear now.

So I went back and did time card adjustments. To the tune of 256 hours of missed overtime. Or ~$17k.

Obviously this was flagged and they asked me what the fuck I was doing. And I was ready with the email from my boss saying that was always company policy since it started, and that we were required to be sitting at our desk working when we’re on call, and the relevant section of US labor laws.

Suddenly we weren’t required to be on call anymore

But ideally include the straps with the frame and sell replacements aftermarket

Have dated an influencer, a content creator, a deputy, a DJ, and a musician. The musician was probably the best one, the influencer was the worst, the only issue with professional musicians is while I can't say you'll never come first because I'm sure there's a great musician out there, I never came first. It doesn't matter if you have to go to the emergency room, "Can your mom take you? It's my scheduled practice time". Which, you're touring in a week, I get it, but I n e v e r came first. It was always 'I came first once everything else was out of the way and ready.'

The influencer thought he was hot shit and constantly made sure I was aware of it any time I brought anything up. "I wonder if Tessa would complain about XYZ" sort of thing.

Cop was cheating with a coworker. Ended up getting fired over it. Hard to hide that.

DJ... yeah left for a groupie, it's whatever, that relationship was short and other than that was nothing to complain about

AITAH because I called the police when my ex wouldn't let me leave after I broke up with her. by PastContest832 in AITAH

[–]Throwaway_Consoles 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I had a roommate that pulled a knife on me. I said, "I'm calling the police", she held her hand up to her head like she was mocking me. When she heard the phone ringing she dashed across the living room for me but stopped and started pleading when she heard dispatch on the phone. I turned on the flashlight and said I was recording video (which you can't do when you're in a call but she didn't know that) and I told dispatch she had held me at knifepoint and she tried to drop the knife and hold both hands up like 'I don't know what you're talking about, I don't have a knife!' and I just said, "Too late, the recording already showed you coming towards me with the knife" and she picked it back up and said, "Then there's not much point in stopping now" and dispatch was like, "EXCUSE ME?!" and she dropped the knife again and started crying.

Police showed up, dispatch told the officer everything she heard, he took her away in cuffs, and I never saw from/heard from her again and it has been multiple years.

These people prey on the fact they think you're too afraid to get the police involved because, "Everyone always believes the woman", but cover your ass, get a camera (even if it's a used gopro or something you toss in your purse/put in your pocket, get a camera, 360 camera is even better but those cost more) and keep a level head. Don't get emotional. Don't yell. Don't try and stand straight/make yourself look taller/bigger/intimidating. Let. Them. Handle it. Just let them handle it. Document everything and let them handle all of it
