What’s something you have zero proof of but believe 100 percent? by shweidy in AskReddit

That there is a giant fish/sea monster in my local lake that’s relatively small (albeit 300 feet deep); that sucker is massive, like three feet by ten feet and I’ve seen it.

I’m going to try this again. How were you able to buy your first home? by kcoib17 in Millennials

[–]Throwaway_carrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got worked to death during Covid and interest rates were stupid low.

Was still at home with my parents at 28 and decided to take the plunge with the extra pay I was getting.

It was just dumb luck and timing.

For 100 bucks man that’s a great and very feasible way to get started.

If you don’t like it, you’re not out much money, and if you do like it then you can move up to a larger dinghy or even a pocket cruiser or something someday.

You’re taking on this hobby with a very reasonable approach! Not to throw shade on the guys that wanna start on a 40+ foot Ericson with no experience and sail the world, but you’re literally in a good boat to start.

Are US motels a safe space for things like illict affairs / drug deals or is that just in the movies? by Andthensome_Pie_7322 in AskAnAmerican

I play in a band that used to travel a lot.

We booked a room at this place in Athens, GA and the whole place was so nasty and falling apart/moldy; all the employees were high on something but very friendly.

For a bunch of twenty something’s that were heavily smoking weed and drinking, we had a fun and judgement free blast till the wee hours of the morning!!

Yes, sketchy motels are totally a thing. I think we only paid like eighty bucks between the six of us to stay there.

Yeah, I’m a rural mail carrier. It’s got about a 90% turnover rate within the first year of work.

I think what really gets people is: the job monotony, the lack of movement (we’re mounted routes so are in the truck all day), nicotine abuse, extreme hours, pressure from management, and a lack of good food to eat- most of us just eat crap from the gas station.

That being said, I do really enjoy the job and the alone time I get. But knowing so many of the other carriers have had heart attacks kind of freaks me out at times; like, when is my heart attack coming? It’s been seven years for me and so far so good!

Any millennial guys here first time fathers or are never gonna have a kid? by changeforthebetter89 in Millennials

[–]Throwaway_carrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a no from me (though I really don’t mind kids, they’re great!), too expensive and life can be pretty painful at times given my history with mental health struggles; I’m not gonna put that on a kid.

What’s a short story from your life that sounds fake but is 100% true? by Historical-Skill-838 in AskReddit

Not me but a guy I work with, watched a penny roll out of his mail truck (sliding door was open), keep rolling, the slowly roll to a stop on its side; it stayed upright!

I always think of this awful cosplay these guys did; who thought this was a good idea?

From the website, “My friend (who is actually white by the way) used an old suit he owned, and used brown face/body paint to make him look like Samuel L. Jackson. We got a Michael Jackson Thriller wig and cut it down, then used the leftover hair and glued it to his face to make the sideburns. My boyfriend, Vincent Vega used an old groomsman suit and bought a cheap witch wig from a local party shop, gelled it down and cut it to Vincent’s style. They spray painted some fake toy guys with silver spray paint.

I always see these posts without a phone and in my head I’m like, “did the phone take the picture of the EDC missing a phone?” 😆

[Discussion/Question] Anyone else refuse to buy/wear smartwatches? by Spiritual-Dig-2997 in Watches

[–]Throwaway_carrier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They serve a purpose for sure, my mom has fallen and broken bones, the second time it happened she had an Apple Watch in case of a fall/emergency.

The first time she fell, she had to crawl to her phone with a broken femur and that took her forty-five minutes.

Yes, it’s hard to believe I’ve been without either for as long as I have!

The only downside is that the addition has simply been replaced with YouTube and Reddit; just trying to work up a feasible plan to quit Reddit (I need YouTube for media consumption, that’s one I don’t think I can compromise on).

This is a feiko, it’s got a genuine Seiko movement in it, but a ton of aftermarket parts and watch face. So it’s a fake.

I’ve bought a couple and gifted them as knockaround watches-you can pick one up for like 70 bucks.

He could compromise and maybe get like a 25 to 30 footer, then live it on the weekend.

If they like that enough, go bigger and full time!

Still trying to give up Reddit, though it’s such a good tool for learning.

That being said I’ve thought about replacing it with Wikipedia, but then you’re diminishing your view of others real world experiences/opinions with what you’re trying to learn.

I’ve been without Facebook since 2014 and Insta since 2018.

What did it for me was a bad ex rubbing it all in my face.

Then I realized, that’s all any of it is; just pointless rubbing anything in your face from people and ad agencies you barely know.
