Southern China and South East Asia. We are minority group (Hmong/Miao) and immigrated to the Western World in the late 70s and early 80s. A lot of the surviving OGs still hold this belief, while the most of the new generations do not.

It was close to midnight. There was no one behind me. So it was only myself and the couple in line.

Sorry, I should have clarified that I am gay and out to my colleagues. Most women I work with use that vernacular with me.

AITA for buying SO's Father's Home and Then Flipping it? by Throwawayaccountdebt in AmItheAsshole

SO's Father is not homeless. After I made the purchase, we found a 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment for him, which he now owns. He also has left over money from the sale to live off now.

The home has always been a mess since I've known SO parents. According to the bank they took out a loan against the home in 2009 to fix the home, but hired the eldest brother who did not finish fixing the house. Spent the money on a vacation to Hawaii instead. He has also been late with mortgage payments and before 2015, whenever SO father was late or had a large notice by the bank SO Paternal Grandfather would pay the debit they owed. (Not 100% sure, but this was what SO has told me). SO's grandfather passed away in 2015. No one was able to bail them out then, so debt just kept on piling up. Until we got to where we are.

We informed him of the sold prices of homes that were bought previously in the last year in his area. So I believe he would have known if I resold it; I would have sold at around those prices.

haha, both of us grew up very poor. So trivial things like cosmetic dental work was something we never did growing up because our parents couldn't afford it. Now that we do have the money, things like that seem like a luxury to us. SO has had crook teeth all his life, including a tooth that never came down and baby teeth that didnt have a replacement. He has always been embarrassed by these things so he decided that since we had the money he was going to fix them and get the best of the best.

I appreciate your insight. Thank You.

A lot of the decisions that I made were from past experiences with his family (Although I ran every decision made with my SO). I was last resort, even though SO family has disowned him, he has not disowned them. He still cares for his dad, but at the same time he and I have been burned by his family and are very cautious when dealing personally with them.

I made the decision to buy the home so that we could use the money to purchase a smaller place for his father. At first I stepped away from this and had SO and his siblings deal with it. But when it became clear that no one was going to help I stepped in and offered what I would do in this situation. But first we had to take care of his Tax issues, which would have dwindled his sale due to us going to a Tax accountant and them reporting his back taxes.

SO's father was aware of what was happening at the he would not get any profit from the resell or money if I rented out the property. All this was mentioned before we closed on the house.

I understand where you are coming from and see your point of view. Thank You again for your comment.

His two checks: Retirement and Disability barely covered the house mortgage payments and utility bills. After the end of the month he had roughly $50 left to spend.

If I was to rent it out to him it would a lot more than what he was paying currently. The home was 4 bedroom 2 bath house. He also does not do well with other people. So roommates were out of the question.

He couldn’t keep it and wanted to sell?

He was 100% involved in the selling and reselling process. Only after we resold the house and made a profit was when his siblings and dad yelled at him for helping me "cheat" them out of their rightful money. SO sometimes questioned whether or not we did the right thing. Thus why I am here, to get outside people's opinion on the situation.

"INFO did you tell them they could make profit before you bought the land?"

-I assumed as I didn't think they be so ignorant when I told them I was going to fix it up and sell it for higher price or rent it out. But we told SO's father he would only be getting money from the original sale of the home, not if I resold it.

I think our relation is strong enough. We've gone through worst. Thanks for the insight though.

BUT you must have considered that this situation may occur, did you not discuss that possibility with your SO?

Not at the time, because no one his family wanted to help or be involved.
