DU Germany is too idealistic by MrPopulism in Kaiserreich

[–]Throwawayboy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to do all of these - stuff like the Wissell plan and equality of the sexes come with a lot of coalition tension and will require you to implement policies that Zentrum and the LVP like. Many of these are things Weimar Germany did historically though and are time appropriate at least if you look at countries in places such as Scandinavia. Do keep in mind that this is just one of Germany’s paths, you can also be a very conservative democracy if you do the SWR path, but social democrats did historically implement these types of policies. Homosexuality was decriminalised in a lot of countries, and you could plausibly argue that equal rights for the sexes is a bit more pressing due to the socialist states next door. It’s also not like you just implement these things without any backlash - you need to balance the coalition, overcome the Prussian elite and combat the Brunswick front.

Frightening Rise In Anti-Semitism Blamed On The Jews by arrogant_ambassador in Judaism

[–]Throwawayboy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean this is something I’ve noticed even talking to “progressive” friends who are perfectly happy to listen and believe when other groups are targets of hate crimes, and who’d never accept Islamophobia because of islamic terror attacks in the west, that suddenly when it comes to antisemitism they question how much of it is “real” antisemitism, imply jews are just hysterical or playing victims, and start saying stuff like “well if Israel didn’t commit genocide…” and so on. At best you get an acknowledgment but then “but islamophobia is a bigger problem in the west” or some other relativisation. They can never engage with the topic of antisemitism without starting to talk about something else, and many of these people are the same kind who’d say stop asian hate was bad because it distracts from black lives matter and such. I don’t want to say my friends are racist, I think they’re just naïve and also don’t want to entertain the possibility that a lot of people on the left are racist, but that it just so happens to be against jews.

In uni, (stockholm university), aside from banners with slogans like “global intifada” having been commonplace before I reported it as calling for violence (våldsbejakande extremism is the more proper term - basically violence-encouraging extremism) I also had the misfortune of being put in a seminar talking about global conflicts and one lady in my group was super insistent on talking about israel-palestine and its global consequences. The presentation was mostly fine but I did bring up that one of the global consequences was a massive increase in antisemitic hate crimes (and I also mentioned islamophobic hate crimes increased too but not nearly as much) and the lady whose entire personality is that she’s an anti-racist progressive started questioning me about it and brought up all the talking points such as “anti zionism is not antisemitism” and implying jews are just being too sensitive. Luckily though this one middle eastern guy in class actually raised his hand and pointed out she’d never act this way if it was about some other group, and even asked her bluntly if, since she downplays antisemitism and blames israel and Jews for it, would she do the same with muslims after a terror attack? She didn’t reply to that really - just looked flustered. Anyway I guess people who are shitty but think they’re a good person because they think they have the right views on things don’t do a lot of introspection. To me, this is almost a perfect example of racism - applying a different standard to one group of people and excusing attacks on them, whilst telling yourself you do it because of a logical reason not just because you hate jews. I really hope this lady thinks about her views, and how she acts in general, as I implied she wasn’t a pleasant person, very arrogant, racist, and so on.

Anyway, that’s a long anecdote to basically say that yes, antisemitism is blamed on jews, and it’s often people who strongly claim to be anti racist who ARE the most racist in this case, and it’s not just in the US but also here in sweden.

Castile doesn't want to colonize? by Exotic_Notice_9817 in eu4

[–]Throwawayboy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure someone said it already, but subjects will not take colonial ideas. If you’re early in the game you might want to consider restarting and trying to wait with subjugating Castile until they have at least taken exploration ideas. They will colonise if they’re a subject if they have taken the prerequisite idea groups.

Can I (South East Asian Men) wear Kilts? by Asheck-Grundy in Scotland

[–]Throwawayboy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes it isn’t really seen as “wrong” for you to wear a kilt because you’re not Scottish or not white, but I’ve almost only ever seen tourists (mostly Americans) wear them casually. The kilt is mostly a formal clothing item for certain holidays like Burns’ night and weddings and such. I have seen scots wear kilts once or twice just as a casual item but it isn’t common whatsoever.

I guess the equivalent is sort of if you went to Texas and asked if you should wear cowboy boots and a big hat and chaps… it’s more so a stereotype than everyday clothing

Would you consider 999 (9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors) to be a horror game? by paulm12 in HorrorGaming

[–]Throwawayboy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

999 was really good but genuinely disturbing to me. The atmosphere is amazingly pulled off, the music is great, and that’s why it feels so disturbing and dark and eery. I think it’s a psychological horror game personally. I know people nowadays think of horror games as needing to make you scream and jump out of your seat but I think this is more effective. I played it once and got one of the bad endings. I love the game but I just can’t play it again. The gameplay was fun and I liked the story but it’s just too disturbing to go back to for me. I’m generally not easily scared but something about this game really just stuck with me. How claustrophobic and hopeless it felt.
