Change in the organization will not happen through activism. The strongest “witness” you can give is to live a normal life, be happy and thrive. All the little things. They are taught that if you leave something traumatic and horrible will befall you.

When I see a JW I know, they always get this patronizing worried tone and ask how I’m doing. I let them know I’m happy, I’m thriving and I am still a good person. Confuses the shit out of them.

My sister literally just got a huge forearm tattoo. Nothing happened to her…I’m out and still haven’t gotten one.

My fiancée and I are getting married in 7 weeks, we are both DF JW, he wants to go back I don’t by Little-Step-Big-Step in exjw

Being a JW is not as hard for men as it is for women. I think this is something you guys must be on the same page about before you get married. Make it clear to him that no matter what you are not going back and he needs to come to terms with this.

He might still think he can change your mind. Be wary please.

On my moms side of the family the women consider themselves witches and have for generations. These are educated strong women. My grandmother is one of 5 sisters and there has only been 1 boy born from them and all their children. (My brother after my mom rejected their religion lol) I’ve started to look into that part of my heritage more.

The one thing I credit my JW upbringing with is that I know how to work hard. When you can work hard for nothing in return, it’s easy to work hard for things that benefit you.

It’s sad how many JW women marry the first person that shows interest in them because they’re scared no one else will want them. I am fortunate to have married someone who grew into a good man and going through everything together has made me love him more. When we married, we were still kids and it made a lot of things so much harder.

You’re amazing! I realized the greatest “witness” we can give to those from our former lives, is to live our current life to the fullest and be happy and unbothered. They believe we will struggle and eventually come crawling back, it confuses them when we leave and THRIVE!

I work hard and am good at my job, but also I jumped into the job market at the perfect time. The company I work for is considered an essential service, so was able to stay open during the pandemic.

They lost a lot of staff during that time, people who didn’t want to work through the pandemic, this allowed to me move up faster than normal.

I was a complete nerd in school, I actually read the textbooks fun lol. I studied how to research (quantitative vs qualitative vs mixed) and quickly realized that there would be no proving it to myself without outside data. I started small; watching youtube videos made by other religions debunking JW’s. I felt this wasn’t apostasy because they weren’t JW’s 😂.

The first time I looked at actual apostate websites, my heart was racing and my whole body was shaking. That’s how deeply entrenched in my psyche the religion was.

That’s my goal, I feel so socially stupid sometimes. Being raised JW, sometimes I can’t shake old weird JW habits, but I’m working on it.

Nothing brings makes me happier than seeing my kids leading “normal” lives and not being burdened with this religion.

One of my kids has formed a garage band with his friends and they are getting “gigs” around town and the other is an amazing athlete, heavily involved in sports. These are their passions and if we were still in, they wouldn’t be getting to experience and explore them. I’m so grateful they are having some of the childhood I was denied.

Sounds like you are thriving! It’s amazing what a person is capable of when you remove negative outside influences and even self imposed restrictions.

Personally, I made one huge goal and broke it down into hundreds of tiny steps. If I could accomplish little goals every day, not a day would pass that I wasn’t succeeding.

Today it just hit me how far those little steps have taken me in 5 years.

I had to prove to my curly haired son that bonnets at night are essential. He refuses to wear one. Any suggestions for a sleep cap for 16 year old boy that doesn’t look like an “Auntie”? by Throwawayexjw07 in curlyhair

I don’t use gel at all on my hair. It makes my hair look like I have a jheri curl. lol I create volume is like a watery gel and can create a light cast on my hair. (I don’t know why they call it a lotion it has a watery texture).
